Job Description

The Junior Data Quality Analyst supports the profiling, validation, monitoring, and improvement of data quality across the organisation under the guidance of experienced colleagues.

The role contributes to customer insights and business decision-making by helping to ensure that data is accurate, complete, consistent, and reliable.
The analyst works with business and technical teams to execute established data quality controls, document findings, support remediation activities, reporting and escalate issues appropriately.

Key Result Areas


Core Data Management & Data Operations

  • Assist with routine data management activities using established processes, standards, and procedures.
  • Extract, organise, reconcile, and validate data from approved sources under guidance.
  • Maintain data records and supporting documentation, including updates, reconciliations, and audit evidence.
  • Identify basic trends, anomalies, duplicates, and missing values, and communicate findings clearly.
  • Follow data security, privacy, governance, and records-management requirements.

Data Quality Management


  • Perform data profiling to assess data completeness, accuracy, consistency, uniqueness, validity, and timeliness.
  • Execute approved data validation checks and established data quality rules.
  • Monitor data quality metrics and flag exceptions, recurring defects, and emerging issues.
  • Prepare routine data quality reports and update scorecards using agreed templates.
  • Log, track, and follow up on data quality issues through the approved issue-management process.
  • Support data cleansing and remediation activities and validate results after corrections are applied.
  • Assist with root cause analysis by gathering evidence, documenting observations, and testing potential causes.
  • Escalate material risks, unresolved defects, and control failures to senior team members.

Data Governance & Documentation


  • Support the maintenance of business definitions, metadata, data lineage, data dictionaries, and control documentation.
  • Apply established data governance standards and data quality requirements in day-to-day work.
  • Participate in data stewardship and continuous-improvement activities as assigned.

Stakeholder Support & Development


  • Collaborate with business users, analysts, developers, data engineers, and governance teams to clarify data issues.
  • Provide timely status updates and explain findings in clear, accessible language.
  • Manage assigned tasks, meet agreed deadlines, and seek guidance when priorities or requirements are unclear.
  • Build knowledge of the organisation’s data, systems, controls, and business processes through coaching and practical experience.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:


  • Matric and equivalent qualification.
  • A relevant diploma or bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Analytics, or a similar field.
  • Zero to two years’ relevant experience in data analysis, data quality, data governance, data management, or a related environment; graduate programme, internship, or learnership experience will be considered.
  • Basic experience working with datasets, spreadsheets, and structured reports.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Exposure to Power BI, Python, R, Alteryx, or similar analytical tools is advantageous.
  • Basic understanding of data quality dimensions, databases, data governance, and data privacy principles is advantageous.
