The Health System encompasses Duke University Hospital, Duke Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital, Duke Health Integrated Practice, Duke Primary Care, Duke Home Care and Hospice, Duke Health and Wellness, and multiple affiliations.

Be You.

The Department of Neurobiology at Duke University is seeking a Lab Research Analyst II to join our research team. In this role, you will work on research projects involving bioinformatics analysis of single-cell genomics and spatial transcriptomics data with the aim to improve the understanding of the development and function of specific neural cell types and neural circuits.

You will contribute to projects focused on developing and applying new tools to trace and modulate specific circuits with single-cell and cell type-specific resolution. The position will involve bioinformatics analysis of single-cell genomics (including 10x Genomics and single-cell HiCAR) and spatial transcriptomics data (Open-ST), as well as integrating them with barcoded rabies virus tracing and labeling data. This position also provides opportunities to develop innovative bioinformatics methods to analyze sequencing-based spatial transcriptomics and barcoded viral tracing data. These efforts are expected to result in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.

Minimum Requirements

  • Generally requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, biostatistics or related biomedical discipline. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Work requires four years of research experience. A related master's degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Solid training in bioinformatics methods.
  • Experience analyzing single-cell genomics data.
  • Strong programming skills in R and python.
  • Proficiency working within UNIX/Linux environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with developing novel bioinformatics methods and pipelines.
  • Experience with single-cell multiome data analysis.
  • Experience with analyzing spatial transcriptomics data.
  • Knowledge of machine learning methods.

Other Requirements

Application materials must include:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Statement of research interests
  • Names of three professional references

Work Arrangement

  • Hybrid. First month is expected to be on-site for integration and training purposes. After that, minimum 3 days on-site and 2 days optional remote. Different arrangement is possible via agreement with the PI. The on-site work is performed at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

Appointment Term

  • Initial appointment is for one year.
  • Renewal may be considered based on project needs and available funding.

Be Bold.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze single-cell genomics and spatial transcriptomics data for various cutting-edge projects aimed at dissecting the molecular mechanisms of brain development.
  • Develop and apply novel tools to perform integrative analysis of spatial transcriptomics and single-cell genomics data from neurons labeled barcoded rabies virus (mRNA+viral barcode analysis).
  • Develop and apply novel tools to analyze joint trimodal single-cell HiCAR data (RNA expression+chromatin accessibility+3D genome organization).
  • Develop and apply novel tools to analyze multiplexed CRISPR screen single-cell genomics data.
  • Contribute to the preparation and publication of research findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Choose Duke.

Duke University is consistently recognized among the top research institutions in the United States and around the world. Located in Durham, North Carolina, Duke offers a collaborative academic environment where researchers work across disciplines to address important challenges in healthcare and science.

As a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, you will have the opportunity to work with leading investigators, contribute to impactful cancer research, and advance innovative statistical methodologies while building a strong publication record.
