About the Role
Join a land use and zoning practice at a New York real estate law firm, advising owners, developers, institutions, and investors on complex property matters. Your work will help clients assess development opportunities and secure approvals for projects across New York City.
What You'll Do
Conduct zoning due diligence for acquisitions and financings, and prepare written analyses of floor area, use, bulk, height, and setbacks.
Advise on development rights transactions, including air rights and zoning lot development agreements.
Prepare and manage applications for land use approvals, including ULURP, BSA variances and special permits, landmark matters, and environmental review.
Coordinate with architects, consultants, community boards, and elected officials during public review.
Work with transactional attorneys on acquisitions and development projects.
Advise property owners and developers on rent regulation matters, DHCR proceedings, acquisition diligence, tenant buyouts, building vacates, and demolition projects.
What We're Looking For
Four to ten years of relevant experience, including NYC zoning and land use work and experience with rent regulation, such as Rent Stabilization, ETPA, and HSTPA.
Admission to the New York Bar and authorization to work in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Experience with zoning analyses and applications, as well as DHCR proceedings such as owner applications, tenant complaints, or administrative appeals.
Landlord- or owner-side experience advising real estate clients; tenant-side experience alone is not a match.
Strong academic credentials, a consistent employment history, and multi-year tenure in prior roles.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary is $250,000 to $275,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Location
Hybrid in New York, New York, with three days per week in the office and Wednesday and Thursday as anchor days.
