Lawyer (Property & Regeneration) – Part-Time Contract

Summary
Mid Kent Legal Services (MKLS) is on the lookout for a seasoned Lawyer specializing in Property & Regeneration to enhance its Property & Regeneration Team. This role involves managing a diverse range of property and regeneration cases while delivering top-notch legal advice and support to Maidstone Borough Council, Swale Borough Council, Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, and other MKLS clients. The position requires close collaboration with senior officers, elected members, and client departments, offering proactive legal guidance on various property and local government issues, all while adhering to Lexcel standards and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee a diverse caseload in Property and Regeneration.
- Deliver timely, practical, and solution-oriented legal advice.
- Draft, review, and negotiate documents related to property transactions.
- Support projects in regeneration, development, and strategic property.
- Provide counsel on Local Government Property Law and related legislation.
- Attend meetings to offer legal advice to officers, managers, and elected members.
- Mentor and supervise junior fee earners as needed.
- Collaborate with Legal Support Officers to efficiently progress transactions.
- Stay informed on developments in Property and Regeneration Law.
- Engage in cross-authority working groups and projects.
- Ensure adherence to Lexcel standards and MKLS values.
- Utilize case management systems like Iken and other IT tools effectively.
Essential
Requirements
Requirements:
- Qualified as a Solicitor, Barrister, Chartered Legal Executive (CILEX), or possess equivalent experience.
- Experience in legal practice within Property and Regeneration Law.
- Proven track record in advising clients on Property Law matters.
- Strong understanding of Property and Regeneration Law and practice.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience in advising senior officers, managers, and elected members.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Proficient IT skills and experience with legal case management systems.
- Ability to meet time recording and performance targets.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Willingness to attend meetings across partner authority locations as needed.
Desirable
- Experience in Local Government legal matters.
- Background in a Lexcel-accredited legal practice.
- Experience in supervising junior legal staff.
- Familiarity with local government decision-making and democratic processes.
