The opportunity
This role puts you at the center of business compliance and legal strategy for Woolworths New Zealand. Working alongside a Senior Lawyer, you will help navigate complex competition, regulatory, and commercial challenges while collaborating with executive stakeholders. It’s a unique opportunity to shape solutions for key regulatory issues and grow within a supportive, forward-thinking team.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver commercially-focused legal advice on business practices, operational proposals, and strategic commercial initiatives.
- Develop Woolworths New Zealand’s responses to regulatory and government proposals impacting the grocery sector.
- Monitor legislation and regulatory practices to proactively identify and manage legal issues for early resolution
- Implement best-practice compliance frameworks and deliver structured training to internal team members.
- Manage day-to-day relationships with regulators, external legal service providers, and key industry stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional leadership teams across New Zealand and Australia to support business strategies and regulatory responses.
- Qualifications: Bachelor of Laws with 3–5 years’ PQE gained within a well-regarded law firm or in-house legal team.
- Legal Expertise: Strong foundational skills in legal analysis, problem-solving, and managing regulatory or competition matters.
- Communication & Detail: Excellent written and oral communication skills with a sharp attention to detail.
- Technical Savvy: High technical capability, including a proactive interest in utilising and introducing Legal AI tools.
- Stakeholder Management: Proven interpersonal and organisational skills, with an ability to build positive relationships across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Mindset: A collaborative, proactive approach to anticipating issues, driving continuous improvement, and helping fellow team members succeed.
