Layout Engineer
Ready to shape the design of the next generation of nuclear power stations? Do you enjoy solving complex engineering challenges, working across disciplines, and seeing your work contribute to major infrastructure projects? At EDF, Success is Personal. As a Layout Engineer, you'll help deliver critical nuclear engineering solutions while building a career that's unique to you.
The Opportunity
As a Layout Engineer, you'll play a key role in supporting the design and delivery of the nuclear island for Hinkley Point C and the replication of this design for Sizewell C. Working as part of a collaborative engineering team, you'll help ensure complex mechanical, electrical and safety requirements are successfully integrated into plant layouts.
You’ll join us on a salary starting of £48,131 per annum. This is a hybrid role, with an expectation to work three days per week from our #Bristol office at Aztec West, alongside two days working from home or another approved EDF location.
From reviewing engineering inputs and coordinating technical interfaces to supporting 3D model development, you'll contribute to projects that support the transition towards An Electric Britain. You'll also have opportunities to develop your expertise in nuclear engineering, collaborate with international stakeholders and influence the successful delivery of major low-carbon infrastructure.
Who You Are
We're looking for a Layout Engineer who enjoys technical problem-solving, working across multiple engineering disciplines and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver effective solutions. Are you experienced in...?
Engineering within one or more disciplines such as mechanical, piping, HVAC or safety engineering
Applying general layout engineering principles on large industrial projects
Understanding the operation of nuclear power stations and associated nuclear safety requirements
Reviewing technical information and assessing impacts across multidisciplinary engineering activities
Working with multiple stakeholders to identify and resolve engineering challenges
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
What You'll Be Doing
Developing and improving plant layouts through the integration of mechanical and electrical equipment
Reviewing engineering inputs and ensuring consistency between technical documentation and 3D models
Supporting the routing and coordination of pipes, HVAC systems and cable trays within complex designs
Producing technical reports, impact assessments and engineering justification documents
Managing layout changes and coordinating engineering reviews across multiple disciplines
Pay, Benefits and Culture
Alongside a starting salary of £48,131 per annum, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.
At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that's unique to you. Here, Success is Personal – it's your journey, powered by us.
Everyone is welcome at EDF; we're committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility, and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with disabilities. As a Disability Confident employer, we will support applicants requiring adjustments.

Why Join Us?
For more than 60 years, nuclear power stations in the UK have been quietly keeping Britain fuelled with massive amounts of home-grown energy.
Our teams up and down the country are proudly continuing to serve the nation – but they also have an eye on the future.
EDF is leading the UK's nuclear renaissance with the construction of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point C and plans for a new power station at Sizewell C in Suffolk.
Nuclear power is the most reliable, low-carbon energy source currently available to the UK. EDF is playing a key role in the development of nuclear sites, while Hinkley Point C will provide low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. The project is already making a positive impact on the local and national economy as well as boosting skills and education.
We’re not just building new nuclear power stations. We’re developing careers, upskilling generations and creating thousands of employment and apprenticeship opportunities across a variety of skills areas.
It takes a special kind of person to work in the nuclear energy industry and although we have thousands of them there’s always a need for more.
Our industry has a mind-boggling range of opportunities and more jobs, and in more places, than you might think. But it’s also an industry which is changing.
We’re a responsible business and proud to be Britain’s biggest generator of zero carbon electricity. With size, age and experience, we believe we can do even more.
