This role is remote and is intended for candidates based in Louisville, KY. The Lead Application Architect is responsible for designing and delivering application architecture solutions that align with Humana's enterprise technology strategy and standards. This role serves as a technical leader, partnering across business and IT teams to solve complex business challenges through scalable, secure, and innovative technology solutions. The Lead Application Architect works on assignments involving diverse scope and complexity, exercising a high degree of independent judgment and influence. This architect will play a key role in Humana's electronic medical record (EMR) transformation initiatives, supporting the transition from eClinicalWorks (eCW) to athenahealth . The individual will collaborate with stakeholders across the enterprise to design and implement architecture solutions that enable interoperability, integration, and seamless patient care experiences. Key responsibilities include: Leading technical planning, solution architecture, and application design activities Defining and evolving architectural standards, specifications, and technology roadmaps Evaluating new technologies, products, and services to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture principles Ensuring compatibility and integration across interconnected applications and platforms Providing architectural guidance and technical leadership for large-scale healthcare technology initiatives Partnering with executive and business leaders to develop technology strategies that support organizational goals Driving architectural decisions for complex, high-impact initiatives while operating with minimal supervision Use your skills to make an impact Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field 8+ years of experience as a Senior Software Engineer, Technical Lead, Solutions Architect, or similar role supporting large-scale IT initiatives Prior experience leading complex technical projects and influencing cross-functional teams Strong application architecture, system design, and integration experience Ability to analyze complex business and technical challenges and develop effective architectural solutions Passion for contributing to an organization dedicated to improving consumer and patient experiences through technology Preferred Qualifications Experience supporting Electronic Medical Record (EMR/EHR) platforms and healthcare technology ecosystems Knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards and API-based integrations Experience with SaaS platforms and cloud-based application architectures Experience with integration engines and technologies used to support healthcare interoperability Knowledge of healthcare data exchange patterns and enterprise integration best practices Experience working in Agile delivery environments and modern software development practices Familiarity with athenahealth, eClinicalWorks (eCW), or similar healthcare platforms Work at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. Humana reserves the right to require associates to upgrade their internet service if necessary. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information. Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required. Scheduled Weekly Hours 40 Pay Range The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc. $129,300 - $177,800 per year This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
