Is this job info correct?

About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi Theta is seeking an experienced Lead Analytics Engineer to join the Data and Insights Practice, based in our Wellington office. This is a priority hire within a team that values delivery excellence and a sustainable pace of work. This role is centred on analytics outcomes: partnering with customers to turn business questions into trusted reporting, governed metrics, and high-quality semantic models. You’ll work directly with client stakeholders and take end-to-end ownership of delivery, working independently where appropriate, and collaborating with solution architects and delivery teams when scale, assurance, or project context requires it, with delivery centred on Microsoft Fabric and the Azure Data Platform. The objective is consistent, reliable implementation that enables measurable business outcomes through well-modelled data, clear definitions of truth, and analytics products that teams actually adopt. In practice, you will: Lead client discovery to define KPIs/metrics (“definitions of truth”) and reporting outcomes. Design the semantic model and analytics data model, then build the first iteration yourself in Microsoft Fabric and Power BI. Deliver pragmatic, fit-for-purpose solutions that teams adopt, and hand over with clear documentation and coaching. Please note: A cover letter accompanying your application is requested Skills and experience | Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako Essential skills: 4+ years hands-on Power BI delivery, including semantic model design, complex DAX measure development, and performance optimisation (model + report). 4+ years client-facing consulting experience, leading discovery, facilitating stakeholder workshops, and translating ambiguous business questions into clear analytics scope and requirements. 4+ years analytics data modelling and SQL, including dimensional modelling/star schema design and strong SQL capability for profiling, transformation, and building analytics-ready datasets. 4+ years end-to-end analytics delivery ownership in a consulting (or equivalent client-delivery) environment, taking work from requirements through build, validation, release, and handover/adoption, and documentation. Great to have: Microsoft Fabric depth beyond Power BI, e.g. Lakehouse/Warehouse, OneLake concepts, Delta tables, workspace/lakehouse organisation, Data Factory and/or dataflows, Fabric notebooks (PySpark where appropriate). Engineering-style delivery practices: Git-based development, CI/CD, automated testing (where appropriate), release management, monitoring/alerting, and environment management. Data governance and security-by-design experience, including metric governance (“definitions of truth”), data quality practices, and row-level security / access patterns. Production support and operational ownership, e.g. incident triage, root-cause analysis, performance troubleshooting, and improving reliability over time. Relevant Microsoft certifications (or active progress towards them), especially in Power BI/Fabric/Azure data disciplines. Mentoring / capability uplift, e.g. coaching analysts/engineers, establishing standards, peer review, and reusable delivery templates/assets. Experience with AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot or similar) used responsibly to accelerate delivery and improve consistency. About You You bring analytics engineering depth and genuine comfort working directly with customers. You can run discovery, translate ambiguity into clear scope, and deliver trusted reporting and semantic models that stakeholders understand and adopt. You care about high standards, maintainability, reliability, and clarity. Balanced with delivery timelines and commercial realities. You’re collaborative, give and receive constructive feedback well, and enjoy mentoring others. Applications are welcomed from experienced Analytics Engineers who want meaningful client interaction, ownership of outcomes, and the opportunity to shape how a growing practice delivers.
