Lead Engineer

Oliver Bernard are once again working with a growing SaaS business that is looking for an Engineering Lead to join its engineering team and take ownership of a key product area.

This is a hands-on, backend-leaning fullstack position. You’ll still be writing code and making technical decisions, while also providing technical direction and supporting the development of junior engineers.

💰 Salary: Up to £90,000 + Benefits

🏙️ Location: Uk Remote (Must be based within the UK - Sponosrship NA)

💻 Tech Stack: React, Typescript, Node - (Python is a bonus)

The company is also investing heavily in AI-native development, so they’re particularly interested in engineers who are already using tools such as Claude Code, Cursor or similar in their day-to-day development.

What you'll be doing

You'll have ownership across the full engineering lifecycle — from working with Product to shape solutions, through to architecture, development and running software in production.

The role combines:

• Hands-on software development across a modern web stack
• Technical ownership of a product area and its architecture
• Mentoring and supporting other engineers
• Working closely with Product and other technical stakeholders
• Making pragmatic technical decisions and helping shape engineering standards
• Improving how the team uses AI and agentic development tools

What they're looking for

We're looking for someone who has progressed beyond purely individual-contributor work but still wants to be in the code.

You'll ideally have experience as a Tech Lead, Lead Engineer or similar, with a strong background in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js.

You don't need to have come from a formal Engineering Manager background — the key is that you've led technically, mentored other engineers and are comfortable taking ownership of architectural decisions.

Python experience would be a nice-to-have rather than a requirement.

Experience with AI-assisted development is particularly interesting, especially if you're already experimenting with agentic coding tools and looking at ways to make them part of your normal engineering workflow.
