Lead Forward Deployed Engineer
Ranger AIAbout Ranger AI
Ranger AI builds production AI systems for complex industrial workflows. Backed by Bonfire Ventures, Inovia Capital, 25madison, and Panache Ventures, our platform helps manufacturers, engineering firms, and EPC enterprises automate document-heavy processes like multi-million-dollar tenders, RFPs, proposals, and engineering specifications.
Role Overview
You will lead technical delivery for our enterprise customers, owning engagements from technical discovery through production deployment on the Ranger platform.
This is an execution-heavy, high-exposure role. You will partner with Ranger Account Owners and Product Managers to run technical customer engagements, act as the primary technical authority in the room, scope complex data environments, write production pipeline code, and ensure systems hit customer acceptance benchmarks. You will also channel customer learnings back into core product and engineering to build reusable platform capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead technical discovery sessions alongside Account Owners and Product Managers, running deep dives with enterprise IT, engineering, and business leaders to map workflows, data flows, and security requirements.
- Serve as the trusted technical counterpart to enterprise stakeholders, running architecture reviews, addressing security and compliance concerns, and leading customer engineering teams through production onboarding.
- Architect, build, and deploy production AI pipelines tailored to industrial documentation using RAG, structured extraction, and agentic workflows.
- Build and maintain reliable integrations connecting customer data sources, ERPs, and document management systems to the Ranger platform.
- Define and implement rigorous evaluation suites, guardrails, and observability to guarantee accuracy and reliability in production customer environments.
- Identify recurring architectural patterns across customer deployments and work directly with core engineering to harden them into platform-level features.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of software engineering experience shipping production backend, distributed systems, or applied AI software in Python or TypeScript/Node.js.
- 3+ years in high-touch, customer-facing technical roles (such as Forward Deployed Engineer, Technical Solutions Architect, or Technical Consultant) leading technical discovery and production software delivery for large enterprise accounts.
- Proven track record leading technical conversations with customer VPs, enterprise architects, security leads, and engineering teams.
- Hands-on experience building and deploying production LLM systems, including RAG pipelines, agentic tool use, structured output enforcement, and automated evaluation frameworks.
- Strong production experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP), Docker, relational/NoSQL databases, and enterprise REST/GraphQL APIs.
- Willingness to travel 15% to 20% for on-site customer discovery, workshops, and production rollouts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with computer vision and multimodal document parsing (handling complex layouts, tables, scanned schematics, or technical drawings).
- Experience with graph databases (e.g., Neo4j) or knowledge graph approaches for enterprise retrieval.
- Experience designing multi-agent systems or agent swarm architectures for multi-step workflow orchestration.
- Prior experience as an FDE at an enterprise AI or data platform.
- Background working with industrial, manufacturing, energy, or procurement enterprises.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary: CAD $175,000 to $215,000, calibrated to senior/staff level.
- Meaningful early-stage equity (based on performance)
- Canada-wide remote flexibility.
- Extended health, dental, and vision coverage, plus flexible paid time off.
