Lead Full-Stack Engineer
Coastline GamingABOUT US
Coastline Gaming has a long history in Irish gaming: 11 venues across Ireland, plus Slotbox, our online casino. Established business, startup mindset — we try an idea, build a working version, and improve it with the people actually using it.
Working across online gaming and physical venues gives you a mix of problems most engineering roles don't have: customer-facing product on one side, the software our staff use on the ground on the other, and direct access to both sets of users.
ABOUT THE ROLE
This is an AI-first engineering role, and we mean it literally. The directors use Claude Code in their own work, so you won't be persuading anyone that AI-assisted building is worth doing. You'll be joining people already doing it — and expected to push it further than they have.
You'll build with AI every day, set how the rest of the team does the same, and have real say in the technical direction of the business. We provide the development and AI tooling, with room to experiment and change how the team works.
You'll work directly with the directors. The role gives you room to own projects outright while staying hands-on in the engineering yourself.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Build customer-facing applications — new frontends and products for our online casino brands.
- Build the connective tissue — APIs and integrations linking our customer products and business systems.
- Find and solve real internal problems — work with staff to spot where better software would help, then build the tools that do it.
- Set technical direction — how systems fit together, which architecture makes sense, and when to build, adapt, or buy.
- Lead the engineers around you — agree priorities with the directors, give people clear ownership, review code, and raise how the whole team builds with AI.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You build with AI daily, and it's changed how you work — not just sped you up. You have opinions about where these tools help and where they quietly cause damage, and you can back both with something you've actually built.
You're comfortable being the most senior technical person in the room and still in the code. You challenge a brief when it solves the wrong problem, you make decisions without waiting for permission, and you check your own work — especially the parts an AI wrote.
Specifically:
- You build with AI daily — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or equivalent are central to how you work, and you can show us what you've produced with them.
- You've led people and projects while still building — several projects at once, with a clear account of what you delegated and what needed you. A small team counts.
- You make technical decisions and explain the trade-offs — including what a change means for users and for every other system touching it.
- You judge your own work — you review AI-generated changes, look for what could fail, and change approach when the evidence says to.
- You pick up unfamiliar systems fast — you ask useful questions, test your assumptions, and know when to go and find someone who knows more.
