About the Green Finance Institute (GFI):
Established in 2019, the Green Finance Institute (GFI) is an independent advisor to governments and investors. It is at the forefront of shaping how finance can be used to facilitate a real economy transition, by designing, testing, and scaling financial solutions that enable capital to flow where it can deliver the greatest impact in the real economy.
Bridging the gap between committed capital and impactful solutions, the GFI delivers positive outcomes for climate and nature by aligning policy, development capital, and pipeline development. As a commercially focused philanthropic organisation working with governments and partnering with financial institutions, corporates, NGOs, policymakers, academics and civil society experts, the GFI has mobilised £77bn in committed capital over six years.
The GFI is headquartered in London and has a presence in eight countries including Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Indonesia, the Philippines, Scotland, South Africa and Spain, and its missions work in built environment, CDR, energy, transportation and nature.
What's the role?
This is an exciting, market-facing role within GFI’s Nature Programme. You will lead GFI’s contribution to a collaborative project that will enable companies and financial institutions to better understand nature-related financial risks, identify priority landscapes and develop pathways for future landscape action and financing.
Working closely with project partners, you will build and manage an engagement platform for leading agri-food companies, investors and banks. You will translate technical analysis into decision-useful insights, facilitate collaboration on landscape selection, and connect company demand and investment interest with credible implementation and financing opportunities.
The role will lead GFI’s delivery across two core project objectives: first, securing participation from leading agri-food companies and financial institutions and establishing an effective industry engagement platform; and second, identifying priority landscapes and developing a strategy for future landscape implementation and financing. You will also contribute to joint research, analysis and knowledge products led or co-led with project partners.
Success will mean establishing a high-quality group of participating companies and financial institutions; ensuring their needs shape the project outputs and their application; identifying landscapes where company demand, investment interest and implementation feasibility align; and producing a credible financing and implementation concept that can support a future phase of work.
We'll trust you to:
- Lead day-to-day delivery of GFI’s project responsibilities, managing the workplan, milestones, budget inputs and reporting, and escalating delivery risks where needed.
- Develop clear stakeholder engagement materials and a participation framework that set out the project’s purpose, expectations, benefits and ways of working.
- Identify and engage priority agri-food companies, investors, banks and other relevant stakeholders, securing their participation.
- Establish and convene an agri-food company working group, including planning and facilitating in collaboration with project partners.
- Co-convene a complementary group of agri-food investors and banks, and coordinate engagement with related investor initiatives.
- Act as a key bridge between market participants and the project’s analytical work, gathering stakeholder needs and ensuring corporate and financial institution perspectives inform the analytical work.
- Develop a landscape financing and implementation concept, including potential delivery partners and pathways for future implementation and financing.
- Lead or co-lead selected public events and convenings, including presenting emerging findings to business, finance and wider stakeholder audiences.
- Represent GFI externally and build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across business, finance, civil society, research and the landscape implementation ecosystem.
You need to have:
- Outstanding relationship-building and influencing skills, with experience engaging decision makers in corporates, financial institutions or both.
- Demonstrable experience of designing and delivering multi-stakeholder programmes, working groups or collaborative initiatives.
- A strong understanding of nature-related business and financial risks and opportunities, and the connections between supply chains, landscapes, corporate action and capital allocation.
- Experience translating technical research or analytical outputs into practical, decision-useful insights for non-technical audiences.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to develop clear engagement materials, presentations, reports and external communications.
- Strong programme and project management skills, including planning, tracking milestones, managing dependencies and maintaining high-quality records.
- A commercial and solutions-oriented mindset, with the ability to identify credible pathways from analysis and engagement to implementation and finance.
- A collaborative working style and experience delivering through partnerships where responsibilities are shared across organisations.
We’d love to see:
- Experience in, or working closely with, the agri-food sector, including companies, investors, lenders or supply-chain initiatives.
- Knowledge of nature-risk analytics, deforestation and conversion risk, natural capital, TNFD-related approaches or nature-related scenario and risk assessment.
- Experience of landscape approaches, blended finance, sustainable supply-chain finance or the development of investment and implementation concepts.
- Experience working with research or academic partners and shaping analytical work around stakeholder needs.
- Experience working in an international, collaborative and network-oriented context.
