Humana is committed to helping people achieve their best health by delivering innovative technology solutions that enable exceptional member and provider experiences. The Lead, Segment Quality Engineer is a hands-on technical leader responsible for leading quality engineering efforts across key products, applications, and delivery initiatives within Humana’s technology portfolio. This role combines deep technical execution with project leadership, helping teams design, implement, and scale modern quality engineering practices that improve delivery quality, release confidence, and production stability.
The Lead, Segment Quality Engineer partners closely with Product, Engineering, Architecture, Platform, DevOps, and Quality Engineering leaders to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle. This role is expected to actively contribute to test strategy, automation design and development, CI/CD quality integration, defect prevention, and validation execution while leading complex testing efforts across multiple teams and initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a hands-on quality engineering lead for complex projects, programs, and product initiatives across a defined segment portfolio.
- Lead end-to-end quality engineering activities for assigned initiatives, including test planning, scope definition, environment coordination, execution oversight, and release validation.
- Design, build, maintain, and improve automated test assets across API, UI, integration, end-to-end, and regression layers.
- Partner with engineers to embed automated quality checks and validation into CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
- Provide technical leadership on test architecture, automation frameworks, test data strategies, and validation approaches for modern applications and distributed systems.
- Drive risk-based testing decisions by evaluating business impact, technical complexity, integration dependencies, and release timelines.
- Lead defect triage activities for assigned initiatives, including issue analysis, prioritization support, root cause identification, and defect prevention recommendations.
- Coordinate quality engineering execution across multiple agile teams to ensure aligned coverage, consistent standards, and timely delivery.
- Support non-functional validation activities such as performance, resiliency, operational readiness, and security-related testing in alignment with enterprise expectations.
- Ensure quality engineering work aligns with Humana standards for cloud, hybrid, multi-cloud, and on-prem environments.
- Identify opportunities to improve test reliability, reduce manual effort, increase automation effectiveness, and strengthen quality signals throughout delivery.
- Mentor engineers and team members on quality engineering tools, practices, coding standards, and automation patterns.
- Contribute to reusable frameworks, shared assets, and standard ways of working that improve consistency and scalability across teams.
- Monitor and communicate quality risks, test progress, release readiness, and key outcomes to project and engineering stakeholders.
- Support production issue analysis and post-release learning to improve future delivery quality and reduce escaped defects.
- Drive adoption of AI-enabled quality engineering capabilities and promote innovative practices that improve speed, coverage, and reliability.
- Ensure responsible adoption of AI and compliance with applicable security, privacy, regulatory, and operational standards.
