Title: Lead Software Consultant, Cloud & Platform (contract)

Contract Details: Immediate start until end of March (with the likelihood of extending). Fixed term contract or independent services agreement (ABN/ACN).

Location: This is a hybrid-based role in Sydney or Melbourne. You must have current working rights in Australia.

About the role

DiUS is looking for a contract software engineer with deep platform and DevOps experience who wants to shape how things are built, not just take tickets.

You'll join one of our enterprise clients as a trusted technical advisor, helping to build out the infrastructure underpinning a core web platform for one of the largest banks in Australia. You'll help drive architectural decisions for their AWS EKS platform, influence engineering teams and stakeholders, and stay hands-on to deliver what you recommend. Our client wants people who bring a point of view, lift the team around them, and drive outcomes.

What you'll do

• Shape the platform: help make key architecture and design decisions across EKS, networking, security and delivery pipelines, and explain the trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

• Drive outcomes: take ambiguous problems, frame them, agree a way forward and see it through to production

• Advise and influence: work alongside the client's engineering leads and product teams, challenging assumptions, recommending better practice and building their capability

• Stay hands-on: build and run production EKS (Karpenter, add-ons, upgrades), write Helm charts, set up GitOps with Argo CD and GitHub Actions, and manage Terraform

• Engineer the platform like software: write automation and tooling in Python, TypeScript or Bash that gives developers an easy, standard path to production

• Own reliability: observability, incident response, and security with IAM Roles for Service Accounts or Pod Identity, and RBAC

What you'll bring

• A software engineering background: you've built and shipped services in Python, Bash, TypeScript/Node, Go, Java or similar

• Strong, recent hands-on experience with AWS EKS and Kubernetes in production

• Solid Kubernetes, Helm, GitOps/CI/CD and Terraform (or CloudFormation) skills

• Experience building on AWS services such as Lambda, S3, DynamoDB and Aurora

• Observability tools such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry or Datadog

• Experience with AWS IAM & Security: IAM Roles for Service Accounts/Pod Identity, RBAC

• Experience influencing architecture and technical direction, whether as a consultant, tech lead or senior engineer

• Confidence with stakeholders: you can run a workshop, write a clear recommendation, and hold your ground with a well-reasoned argument

Nice to have

• Consulting or client-facing delivery experience

• CKA / CKAD or AWS Professional certifications

• Experience in financial services or other regulated environments
