We’re looking for a talented Lead Software Engineer experienced with Java , who’s ready to deliver high-quality solutions on Google Cloud Platform as part of a long-term, high-impact project . You’ll join a team of experienced GCP and Java professionals who have been shaping the backend architecture of this product for over a decade — contributing to a scalable, cloud-native system used by customers worldwide. You are looking for us if you... believe that cloud is the future, and an opportunity to work on a cloud-based product with millions of users sounds exciting to you. like to bridge real business problems and complex technical challenges. solely designing complex solutions doesn’t satisfy you because you also want to stay hands-on through implementation, spending as much care on directing and reviewing AI-generated code as you would writing it yourself. love experimentation with new technologies even if the toolkit is immature. love thinking out of the box to get around obstacles you didn’t face before. are proactive and constructive regarding professional challenges. don’t keep your knowledge to yourself but are happy to share your knowledge and experience with others. We are looking for you if you... have a minimum of 7-8 years of Java development experience have public cloud experience, preferably with GCP. talking directly to clients to understand their business needs is not outside your comfort zone. want to use your technical leadership skills to guide both our engineers and our clients’ engineers on their cloud journey. creative approach to problem-solving comes hand in hand with systematic and quick thinking. are able to make credible technical decisions and justify them clearly to different audiences. thrive when trying out new technologies. are efficient in prototyping with conscious decisions on tradeoffs you have to make. have good communication skills both in Hungarian and English. work AI-first by default: you use approved AI coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, Copilot) as a normal part of daily delivery, not only when you get stuck, while remaining fully accountable for everything you ship. can direct AI-assisted and agentic development through disciplined engineering practices: clear specifications, task decomposition, architecture constraints, and incremental verification. keep your knowledge of the AI tooling stack and its guardrails up to date — models, CLIs, agent skills, MCP servers, permission models — and know how to spot the security, supply-chain, privacy and cost risks that come with them. build objective verification into your workflow — tests, linters, CI, independent review — instead of treating a confident AI-generated answer as proof of correctness on its own Your role will include... developing complex cloud-based products. getting to know Google Drive better than its own developers and doing things with it that it was not originally designed to do. contributing in refactoring the core of the product to enable cloud deployment outside of GCP. solving complex problems in collaboration with colleagues in Budapest and remote teams. scaling the application on public and private cloud platforms as the user base grows. optimizing the code and data structures to make the application fast and the users happy. tracking down tricky problems in a distributed production system and in libraries you have to use. creating and challenging the design and suggesting better ways, if there is one. performing code reviews and teaching each other new tricks. It would be nice if you also had... experience with Google Cloud Platform (Google App Engine). experience with SQL, Python, and Terraform. an interest in or experience with Big Data. experience in customer relationships. hands-on experience orchestrating AI agents beyond basic prompting — subagents, hooks, custom MCP servers, or similar agentic workflows. language skills in French.
