The opportunity

We have a rare opportunity for an experienced Lead Solution Architect to join QBE. Initially supporting the ERT program, you will design and deliver end-to-end technology architectures for strategic initiatives across the organisation. Reporting to the Principal Enterprise Architect, you will partner with business and technology stakeholders to create secure, scalable, reusable and cost-effective solutions that align with QBE's enterprise architecture principles, technology strategy and operational objectives.

About QBE

At QBE, we get to the heart of what matters for our customers. And we do it all with a human touch.

We’re an international insurer with more than 13,000 people working across 26 countries – which means we’re big enough for your ambitions, yet small enough for you to make a real impact. It’s an exciting time. We’re building momentum towards our vision to become the most consistent and innovative risk partner.

What if you could have a positive impact – at work and in the world? As part of the QBE team, you’ll get to spend every day working with people who are passionate, talented and kind.

Your new role

In this role, you will provide architecture leadership throughout the project lifecycle, guide critical design decisions and help strengthen QBE’s architecture practices and capabilities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Translate business requirements into clear solution architectures, application structures, integration patterns and technology choices.
  • Collaborate with delivery teams, platform owners, architects and service providers to create practical technology designs.
  • Lead architectural decisions and manage trade-offs across business value, delivery constraints, risk and operational needs.
  • Define application structures, integration patterns and technology choices that support immediate and long-term outcomes.
  • Maximise reuse, simplify the technology landscape and reduce complexity across enterprise capabilities.
  • Contribute to architecture strategies, standards, principles, roadmaps and future technology adoption plans.
  • Identify and manage architectural risks, assumptions, dependencies and key design decisions.
  • Promote consistent architecture methods, governance processes and continuous improvement practices.
  • Share knowledge, mentor peers and strengthen the Solution Architecture community.
  • Build trusted stakeholder relationships and influence strategic technology decisions.

About you

You are an experienced technology architect with a strong track record of designing and delivering complex enterprise solutions across multiple business domains and transformation initiatives. You combine deep technical expertise with pragmatic judgement, clear communication and the ability to influence stakeholders across business, technology and vendor environments.

You will also have:

  • Extensive experience designing end-to-end solutions across application, integration, data, infrastructure, security and cloud domains.
  • Strong knowledge of modern technologies, including Azure, microservices, containers, single-page applications and REST APIs, alongside legacy platforms.
  • Proven delivery experience in large-scale transformation programs using Agile, Waterfall and hybrid approaches.
  • Ability to apply architecture principles, standards and governance pragmatically while managing risk, cost, complexity and operational requirements.
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with experience working across business teams, technology partners and third-party providers.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into clear designs for technical and executive audiences.
