Work Location: Poland—Hybrid
Drive the future of AI Transformation at Pearson as part of the AI Centre for Enablement team (AI C4E). Inspire innovation. Empower learning.
Pearson, the world's leading learning company, is hiring a DevOps & SRE Engineer, AI Control Plane for our Office of Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) to join the AI Centre for Enablement (C4E) team.
Why This Role Matters:
The AI Control Plane (AICP) is Pearson's flagship investment in AI infrastructure: a multi-year programme that closes Pearson's AI governance gap, accelerates how teams ship AI value, and builds the strategic know-how to keep AI cost-effective as usage scales. It delivers enterprise-wide visibility into Pearson's AI estate—what is deployed, what it costs, where it creates value, and what we should do next. AICP sits inside OCTO's AI Centre for Enablement (C4E).
This role anchors the operational posture of AICP's enterprise governance and telemetry layer—reliability, observability, CI/CD, and cost—for a platform that runs at Pearson scale. You make that platform dependable so engineering teams can build on it with confidence, working alongside colleagues across Poland and Pearson's wider estate and partnering with the external delivery partners that provision it.
As a member of OCTO AI C4E and Pearson, you are expected to embody and role model our leadership dimensions:
Live Our Purpose: You align your values, actions, and goals with Pearson's mission. You connect daily work to our broader purpose and make decisions that reflect a deep understanding of our strategy.
Simplify the Complexity: You navigate ambiguity and distil complexity into clear, actionable plans. You help teams focus and execute in a dynamic environment.
Carry Our Culture: You foster customer centricity, high performance, and strong collaboration. You lead with integrity and contribute to inclusive, high-performing teams.
Deliver Results: You set ambitious goals and execute with quality, precision, and speed. You hold yourself accountable for outcomes and measurable impact for learners and stakeholders.
What You'll Do
- Stand up the operating model for AICP's enterprise governance and telemetry platform: define SLOs, on-call, incident response, and post-incident learning that keep the service reliable as adoption scales.
- Build and maintain the deploy and runtime platform—CI/CD, infrastructure as code, environments, secrets, and identity—so engineering teams ship changes quickly and safely.
- Design observability and cost visibility for AI-specific workloads—latency, drift, spend, and safety—and convert recurring incidents into automated, lasting reliability improvements.
- Partner with engineering teams across Pearson and the external delivery partners that provision the platform, rolling out new processes and tools and providing technical guidance on deployment and incident management.
Who You Are:
- Customer-centric: you measure success by fewer disruptions for the people who depend on Pearson's AI services, not by activity.
- Bar-raising: you seek out better tooling and share the lessons from every incident and deployment so the whole team improves.
- Collaborative beyond your remit: you join technical design sessions, help developers with problems that aren't strictly yours, and share ownership of outcomes while encouraging safe experimentation.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Cloud computing, infrastructure as code, software development, and version control expertise, with a bias for automation over manual ceremony.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, plus the information-security awareness to run a platform that handles sensitive AI governance data safely.
- Clear communication and stakeholder engagement: you articulate reliability trade-offs and cost posture to technical and non-technical audiences, and you are fluent enough in AI workloads to design observability that fits them.
What You'll Gain:
- The chance to set the reliability and operational bar for a Board-visible AI infrastructure programme sponsored by OCTO leadership.
- Ownership of the platform that keeps Pearson's enterprise AI governance and telemetry layer reliable, observable, and cost-effective at scale.
- Direct collaboration with engineering teams across Poland and Pearson's wider estate, and visibility across OCTO and the Chief Data & AI Office.
