Overview

This is a broad, practical role for a strong mid-level lawyer who wants to work at the centre of product, marketing, licensing and growth within a fast-growing organisation. Reporting to the General Manager, Risk & Compliance, you will independently manage a meaningful portfolio of legal and compliance work while partnering closely with Dabble's Senior In-House Counsel.

You will take ownership of the legal and regulatory aspects of licensing matters, including applications, renewals and expansion into new markets. You will coordinate input from across the business, apply sound legal judgement and help produce high-quality applications, submissions and regulatory responses.

You will help turn regulatory requirements into clear, usable decisions for the business. The role suits someone who enjoys variety, learns the operational aspects quickly and is comfortable moving from a marketing approval to a product review, an integrity agreement or a new-jurisdiction licensing project in the same week.

Primary Location
This role is currently open to candidates based in Brisbane or Melbourne.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approve Australian marketing, promotions, campaigns and customer communications against applicable wagering, advertising and consumer protection requirements

  • Give clear, timely and commercially useful advice, including compliant alternatives where a proposed approach creates unnecessary risk

  • Review new products, features, customer journeys and operational changes for legal, licensing and compliance impacts.

  • Partner with product, technology, operations and marketing teams from an early stage so requirements are designed into delivery rather than addressed at launch.

  • Lead the legal and regulatory aspects of licence applications, renewals, variations and related submissions across Australia and new markets.

  • Interpret licensing requirements, identify material risks and dependencies, and provide clear advice on the pathway to approval and market entry.

  • Support in-house counsel with commercial contract review, regulatory interpretation, customer and operational issues, and other legal work according to business priorities.

  • Review and negotiate integrity agreements and related arrangements with sporting bodies, racing bodies and commercial partners, working with the Senior In-House Counsel on material or novel issues

Skills & Qualifications

  • An Australian law degree, current Australian practising certificate or eligibility to obtain one, and approximately 5+ years' post-qualification experience, with flexibility for an exceptional candidate

  • Experience as an in-house lawyer or in a commercial or regulatory practice supporting a fast-moving business

  • Strong legal drafting and interpretation skills, including contracts, customer terms and concise business advice

  • The judgement to resolve routine matters independently, recognise what is genuinely material and escalate with a recommendation

  • Strong organisation and follow-through across concurrent approvals, reviews, applications and project work

  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of complex legal, regulatory or licensing matters and drive them through to a high-quality and timely outcome

  • Experience in wagering, gaming, racing, sport, digital platforms or other heavily regulated consumer industry

  • Experience reviewing advertising and promotions or advising on the Australian Consumer Law and privacy requirements

  • Exposure to licensing applications, regulator engagement, integrity agreements or market-entry projects

  • An interest in developing deeper expertise across sports betting, daily fantasy sports and emerging regulated products

Are you a Dabbler?

A Dabbler’s attitude is paramount, as the right person will be able to learn quickly and adapt to any skill gaps. A Dabbler is always a team player, with a willingness to share with and learn from others. Being a remote-first workplace, collaborative working styles are crucial to empower and grow each individual member (eg we prefer openness via public channels to problem solve or ideate on Slack).

A Dabbler uses their freedom of autonomy to its absolute potential and enjoys contributing to the Dabble community. We hold respect for our peers very highly – there is no such thing as a bad idea. We encourage you to think differently, be brave and strive to always raise the bar. Dabble was born out of thought sharing and should tackle growth in the same way. Dabble embraces empowerment of all people at any level of seniority and experience to ‘own their work’ and ‘talk their book’ wherever they can.

A fulfilling life extends beyond work, and we encourage our employees to prioritise self-care and well-being. This means taking breaks when needed, setting boundaries, and seeking support when facing challenges. We are committed to creating a safe environment where individuals feel comfortable discussing their wellbeing and accessing resources when necessary.
