Legal Counsel – APAC MNC | Regional Role | Hybrid

Overview

Our client is a leading multinational engineering and consultancy group, looking for a Legal Counsel – APAC to join its growing regional legal team.

This is a regional in-house role supporting business operations across APAC, with exposure to commercial projects, cross-border matters and stakeholders across different markets.

This role offers the opportunity to:

Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial and consultancy agreements, including NDAs, framework agreements, professional appointments and project-related contracts.
• Provide practical and commercially focused legal advice to business and project teams.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal and operational risks arising from projects and business operations.
• Advise on project-related matters, including potential delay, disputes and other contentious issues.
• Support the development and implementation of legal policies, processes, standard contracts and compliance initiatives.
• Provide legal support on disputes and alternative dispute resolution matters.
• Support the business on insurance, governance and legal risk management.
• Conduct legal training for operational and project teams.
• Work closely with legal colleagues across the wider regional and global legal network on cross-border matters.

Requirements

• Malaysian-qualified Advocate & Solicitor.
• Minimum 5 PQE, gained in-house or with a reputable law firm.
• Strong commercial contracts experience.
• Experience in the engineering, construction, infrastructure, energy or consultancy industry is highly preferred.
• Strong experience drafting and negotiating consultancy and project-related agreements.
• Familiarity with FIDIC or other industry-standard construction/engineering contracts.
• Good understanding of project risks, including delay, disputes and distressed projects.
• Experience working with stakeholders across different levels and functions in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong drafting, negotiation, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Commercially minded, proactive and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
