The Role

We are seeking an experienced Livestock Manager to oversee livestock production, animal health and welfare, farm operations, workforce coordination, feeding programs, facilities, breeding activities, biosecurity, and production performance.

The successful candidate will combine practical livestock-management expertise with strong planning, financial, analytical, and leadership capabilities to ensure safe, efficient, and commercially sustainable operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement livestock production strategies aligned with operational and commercial objectives.
  • Manage daily livestock operations across housing, feeding, breeding, health, handling, and production activities.
  • Establish production plans, herd or flock targets, operating schedules, and resource requirements.
  • Monitor animal growth, weight gain, reproductive performance, mortality, productivity, and overall condition.
  • Maintain high standards of animal welfare, humane handling, housing, and husbandry.
  • Coordinate feeding programs, ration management, feed storage, and feed-quality controls.
  • Monitor feed conversion, nutritional performance, and feed-related costs.
  • Work closely with veterinarians and animal-health specialists to maintain effective health programs.
  • Implement vaccination, parasite-control, disease-prevention, and treatment protocols.
  • Maintain robust biosecurity procedures covering people, animals, equipment, vehicles, facilities, and incoming materials.
  • Monitor livestock health indicators and investigate illness, injury, mortality, or abnormal production results.
  • Coordinate breeding programs, mating schedules, pregnancy monitoring, births, weaning, and replacement planning.
  • Manage livestock identification, traceability, movement records, and production documentation.
  • Oversee livestock housing, ventilation, temperature control, sanitation, water supply, and environmental conditions.
  • Ensure reliable access to clean drinking water and appropriate livestock facilities.
  • Plan and supervise livestock handling, transportation, loading, unloading, and movement activities.
  • Coordinate harvesting, sales preparation, market delivery, or processing activities where applicable.
  • Monitor livestock quality, condition, grading, and customer or market requirements.
  • Manage farm employees, technicians, animal handlers, contractors, and seasonal workers.
  • Develop workforce schedules, responsibilities, training programs, and performance expectations.
  • Ensure employees follow animal-welfare, biosecurity, safety, hygiene, and operational procedures.
  • Manage livestock-related budgets, operating costs, labor requirements, and resource utilization.
  • Forecast requirements for feed, veterinary supplies, equipment, bedding, medications, and other inputs.
  • Coordinate procurement and monitor supplier performance, quality, availability, and cost.
  • Maintain accurate livestock inventories and reconcile animal numbers across production stages.
  • Monitor facilities and equipment and coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • Identify operational risks and implement contingency plans for disease outbreaks, extreme weather, feed shortages, equipment failures, and other disruptions.
  • Maintain emergency response procedures for animal-health, welfare, environmental, and operational incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable agricultural, veterinary, animal-welfare, food-safety, environmental, and workplace requirements.
  • Prepare operational reports covering livestock numbers, health, mortality, production, costs, breeding, feed consumption, and performance.
  • Analyze production data to identify trends, inefficiencies, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Introduce technology and data-driven practices for livestock monitoring, traceability, feeding, health management, and operational control.
  • Support sustainability initiatives involving water efficiency, waste management, emissions reduction, resource optimization, and responsible land use.
  • Maintain strong relationships with veterinarians, laboratories, suppliers, regulators, customers, consultants, and agricultural partners.
  • Lead continuous-improvement initiatives to increase productivity, animal welfare, quality, and profitability.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate should have substantial experience in livestock production, animal husbandry, farm management, agricultural operations, or a related field, preferably within commercial cattle, dairy, poultry, sheep, goat, swine, or mixed-livestock operations.

The candidate should demonstrate:

  • Strong practical knowledge of livestock husbandry and production management.
  • Understanding of animal nutrition, feeding systems, breeding, and herd or flock health.
  • Knowledge of animal welfare and humane livestock-handling principles.
  • Experience implementing biosecurity and disease-prevention programs.
  • Ability to interpret livestock production and health data.
  • Strong workforce leadership and operational-management skills.
  • Experience managing budgets, procurement, suppliers, and farm resources.
  • Strong planning, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Familiarity with livestock-management software, farm-management systems, monitoring technologies, or digital production tools.
  • Strong understanding of agricultural health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively with veterinarians, technicians, farm teams, suppliers, and senior management.
  • Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping practices.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and respond effectively to operational emergencies.
  • A practical, data-driven, safety-conscious, and continuous-improvement mindset.
