Local Government Leadership Student Assistant

Department Overview: The University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension connects university research and expertise with communities across Wisconsin through education, outreach, and engagement. This position is part of the Community Development Institute's Organizational and Leadership Development Program, which helps build leadership, organizational effectiveness, and community capacity. Anticipated Start Date: September 8, 2026 Anticipated End Date (If Applicable): September 7, 2027 Remote Work Eligibility Detail: Partially Remote Anticipated Hours Per Week: Minimum: 8 Maximum: 15 Schedule: Approximately 10 hours per week. Scheduled hours typically occur between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and include in-person and virtual support for the Certified Public Manager® Program's monthly two-day sessions, the Wisconsin Local Government Leadership Academy's bi-monthly virtual sessions, and regular team meetings. Remaining hours are flexible and may be completed around the student's class schedule in coordination with the supervisor. Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum: Minimum: $18.00 Maximum: $21.00 Number of Positions: 1 Qualifications: Must be a current student enrolled for credit at an academic institution. Student will need to show proof of enrollment before starting. Employment will require a criminal background check. Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills. Preferred: Access to personal or public transportation. When the student's class schedule allows, they will support in-person sessions of the Certified Public Manager® Program that are held at Herzing University (5218 East Terrace Drive). Knowledge, Skills & Abilities : Interest in public affairs, public administration, leadership development, adult education, community development, or related fields. Ability to support event planning, customer service, and administrative processes. Ability to learn and use virtual meeting and learning management platforms, such as Zoom and Canvas. Ability to gather, organize, and synthesize information. Ability to support the design and evaluation of educational materials. Position Summary/Job Duties: Provide in-person and virtual support for the delivery of the Certified Public Manager® Program and Wisconsin Local Government Leadership Academy. Coordinate classroom, Zoom, and Canvas logistics, including technology setup, attendance tracking, and participant support. Assist with participant communications, registration, and cohort management. Conduct research and assist with educational materials and resources. Support program evaluation, event planning, and other operational needs as assigned. Physical Demands: Transport and set up instructional materials and technology equipment. Work at a computer for extended periods.
