The Role:
We are looking for a Logistics Engineer to join our Supply Chain team and provide dedicated engineering, analytical, systems and continuous improvement support across the C4 Hub, Burgersfort branch and broader Core Network.
This is a hands-on role that combines logistics engineering, operational performance, data analysis, process optimization and systems support. The successful candidate will work closely with operational teams and management to identify opportunities, solve operational challenges and implement sustainable improvements across the logistics network.
The role will also play an important part in supporting the ongoing development and optimization of our WMS/TMS and SAP environment, while contributing towards future SAP EWM readiness and broader supply chain digitalization initiatives.
Key Performance Areas:
Logistics Engineering & Operational Support
- Provide logistics engineering support to C4, Burgersfort and selected Core Network operations.
- Analyse warehouse capacity, utilisation, material flow, layouts and operational processes.
- Identify operational constraints, inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement.
- Support warehouse and logistics optimisation initiatives to improve productivity, cost and service performance.
- Provide engineering input into operational challenges, projects and business requirements.
Data, Analytics & Performance Management
- Collect, analyse and interpret operational and logistics data.
- Develop and maintain performance reports, dashboards and analytical tools.
- Identify trends, variances and recurring operational issues and translate these into actionable improvement opportunities.
- Support data-driven decision-making across the logistics function.
- Develop business cases and cost-benefit analyses for logistics initiatives and projects.
Systems & Digitalisation
- Support the optimisation and ongoing development of WMS/TMS and SAP processes.
- Assist with identifying system gaps, enhancement opportunities and process improvements.
- Work with operational and IT stakeholders to investigate and resolve system-related issues.
- Support systems implementation, stabilisation and continuous improvement activities.
- Contribute towards SAP EWM readiness and future warehouse digitalisation initiatives.
Continuous Improvement & Process Optimisation
- Identify, develop and implement continuous improvement opportunities.
- Map current and future-state processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
- Support standardisation of logistics processes across sites and regions.
- Develop, review and maintain SOPs, work instructions and process documentation.
- Monitor the effectiveness and sustainability of implemented improvements.
Projects & Business Support
- Provide logistics engineering support to operational and strategic projects.
- Assist with warehouse expansions, infrastructure changes, system implementations and process redesign.
- Support project planning, implementation and post-implementation reviews.
- Prepare presentations, reports and recommendations for management.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure successful implementation of initiatives.
Your Profile:
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, Logistics Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- A Postgraduate qualification in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Logistics, will be advantageous.
- Relevant professional certifications in Lean Six Sigma, Continuous Improvement, Project Management or Supply Chain Management will be advantageous.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, modelling, reporting and dashboard development.
- Working knowledge of Power BI, data visualisation and analytical tools is highly advantageous.
Professional Experience
The successful candidate should have a sound understanding of the following areas:
- 5–8+ years of relevant professional experience in logistics engineering, industrial engineering, supply chain, warehousing, distribution or a similar operational environment.
- Proven experience in a logistics engineering or industrial engineering role within a complex warehouse, distribution or supply chain environment.
- Demonstrated experience working across multiple operational functions and/or sites, with the ability to understand the interaction between warehouse operations, inventory, order management, transportation, systems and customer service.
- Proven experience in process optimisation, continuous improvement and operational performance improvement.
- Demonstrated experience in analysing operational data and converting insights into practical business improvements.
- Experience in warehouse capacity planning, space utilisation, warehouse layouts, material flow and process design.
- Proven experience in developing and implementing SOPs, process standards, workflows and operating models.
- Experience developing business cases, cost-benefit analyses, investment justifications and management recommendations.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting or leading logistics projects, system implementations, process changes and operational transformation initiatives.
Systems & Digital Supply Chain Experience
The successful candidate should have strong exposure to technology-enabled logistics environments, including:
- Proven experience with SAP, preferably SAP S/4HANA and/or SAP EWM.
- Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Transport Management Systems (TMS).
- Experience supporting WMS/TMS implementation, optimisation, stabilisation and continuous improvement.
- Understanding of the relationship between ERP, WMS, TMS and operational processes.
- Experience identifying system gaps, translating operational requirements into system requirements and working with IT/system teams to implement solutions.
- Exposure to systems integration, automation, digitalisation and data-driven supply chain initiatives.
- Experience with Power BI, dashboard development, data modelling or other business intelligence platforms.
- Experience supporting or preparing an organisation for SAP EWM or other major warehouse system implementations would be highly advantageous.
