South Africa (Remote) | Full-Time | Permanent | Logistics & Same-Day Delivery

Placed by Hotsourced – connecting top South African talent with world-class global companies

Our client is a fast-growing UK-based logistics start-up transforming same-day delivery for the construction and trade industries. From essential tools and building materials to specialist heavy-goods transport, they help businesses keep projects moving through reliable, efficient delivery solutions.

They are looking for a proactive and ambitious Logistics & Operations Assistant to join their expanding team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced start-up environment, enjoys negotiating with suppliers, and takes ownership of operational challenges. You'll work closely with courier partners, merchants, and internal teams to coordinate deliveries, secure competitive transport rates, and deliver an exceptional customer experience.

Company Description

Our client is one of the UK's fastest-growing same-day delivery businesses, specialising in transporting tools, equipment, and construction materials. Their delivery network spans bicycles, vans, and specialist heavy-goods vehicles, with external haulage partners supporting larger transport requirements.

With a collaborative, entrepreneurial culture, the company encourages team members to take initiative, contribute ideas, and continuously improve operational processes. As the business grows, you'll have opportunities to develop new skills, take on greater responsibility, and directly influence its success.

About The Role

We are looking for a resourceful, tech-savvy, and highly organised Logistics & Operations Assistant to support daily transport and delivery operations.

You'll play an important role in sourcing and negotiating transport quotes, managing bookings, communicating with customers and courier partners, and resolving operational issues efficiently.

This role is ideal for someone with at least 2 years of relevant experience who enjoys problem-solving, managing multiple priorities, and working independently while staying closely connected to a team.

You don't need to know every aspect of logistics from day one. What matters most is your willingness to learn, strong communication skills, commercial awareness, and ability to get things done.

Responsibilities - What you'll be doing:

  • Source, request, and compare competitive transport quotations from courier companies and haulage partners, particularly for heavy-goods deliveries.
  • Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, and service terms to secure competitive rates without compromising service quality.
  • Schedule, record, and coordinate incoming and outgoing delivery bookings through internal transport management systems.
  • Act as a key point of contact for customers, merchants, suppliers, and courier partners, ensuring smooth communication throughout the delivery process.
  • Provide timely updates on delivery schedules, booking confirmations, and any changes to transport arrangements.
  • Proactively identify and resolve delivery delays, route changes, booking discrepancies, and other operational challenges.
  • Handle incoming telephone and email enquiries professionally, maintaining a friendly, confident, and solutions-focused approach.
  • Maintain accurate records of transport quotations, bookings, carrier performance, and relevant delivery documentation.
  • Manage multiple workflows and prioritise competing requests in a fast-moving operational environment.
  • Collaborate across internal teams, supporting wider business operations and contributing to process improvements as required.

Requirements - What we're looking for:

We think the right candidate will tick most of the following boxes:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in logistics, operations, transport coordination, customer service, or a similar fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with the confidence to communicate professionally with UK-based customers, suppliers, and partners.
  • Strong negotiation skills, particularly when discussing pricing, service terms, and delivery arrangements.
  • Experience coordinating workflows, managing bookings, or handling multiple operational requests simultaneously.
  • A proactive, self-motivated approach, with the ability to take initiative and solve problems independently.
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail, ensuring accurate records and efficient operations.
  • Comfortable using Google Workspace, including Gmail, Google Sheets, and Google Docs.
  • Strong general computer literacy and the ability to quickly learn new software, booking platforms, and internal systems.
  • A customer-focused mindset, with the ability to build positive working relationships and manage challenging situations professionally.
  • Adaptability and resilience, with the confidence to work under pressure and respond effectively to changing priorities.
  • A collaborative attitude and willingness to support colleagues across different areas of the business.
  • An ambitious, growth-oriented mindset and enthusiasm for working in an entrepreneurial start-up environment.

Nice to have:

  • Previous experience working with UK-based businesses, customers, or logistics providers.
  • Experience obtaining transport quotations, coordinating third-party couriers, or negotiating supplier rates.
  • Familiarity with haulage operations, heavy-goods vehicles (HGVs), or construction-related logistics.
  • Experience working in a high-growth start-up or similarly dynamic business.
  • Familiarity with AI-powered productivity tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini.

Work Schedule

As the client is UK-based, you will be required to work UK business hours:

  • Monday to Friday
  • 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM GMT (10:00 AM – 07:00 PM SAST) during UK winter time.
  • 08:00 AM – 05:00 PM BST (09:00 AM – 06:00 PM SAST) during UK summer time.
  • Fully remote, based in South Africa.

Pay & Benefits - What we offer:

  • Monthly salary: R20,000 – R25,000.
  • Fully remote working arrangement from anywhere in South Africa.
  • The opportunity to join a rapidly growing UK-based logistics start-up.
  • Clear opportunities for career progression, professional development, and increased responsibility.
  • Exposure to international logistics operations, supplier negotiations, and operational management.
  • A collaborative and entrepreneurial environment where your ideas and contributions are valued.
  • Opportunities to work across different business functions and develop a broad operational skill set.
  • The chance to make a meaningful impact by improving processes and helping shape the company's future.
