Manager, Clinical Data Science

Position Summary

As a Manager, Data Management, you will provide operational and people leadership to Clinical Data Coordinators (CDCs), Clinical Data Management Specialists (CDMSs), and other Data Management professionals within ISS. You will be accountable for the successful delivery of data management services, ensuring that quality, timelines, productivity, compliance, and client expectations are consistently achieved.

The role requires strong leadership, strategic oversight, and stakeholder management capabilities, with responsibility for team development, operational excellence, resource planning, and the promotion of continuous improvement initiatives. The Manager serves as a key representative of ISS Data Management both internally and externally, fostering strong client relationships and advancing the function's capabilities and reputation.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide effective line management, leadership, coaching, and mentorship to Data Management teams across assigned projects and functions.
• Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, quality, innovation, and continuous learning.
• Conduct performance evaluations, career development discussions, and succession planning activities for direct reports.
• Identify capability gaps and implement development plans to support individual and team growth.
• Support talent acquisition activities, including interviewing, onboarding, workforce planning, and resource management.
• Mentor future leaders and technical experts within the organization.

• Oversee the delivery of Data Management activities to ensure compliance with agreed timelines, quality expectations, and budget requirements.
• Ensure accurate resource allocation and workload distribution across teams to optimize productivity and delivery outcomes.
• Monitor key operational metrics, productivity indicators, quality trends, and capacity forecasts, implementing corrective and preventive actions as needed.
• Effectively manage project risks, issues, and escalations, ensuring timely resolution and stakeholder communication.
• Ensure all deliverables meet regulatory requirements, sponsor expectations, and internal quality standards.

• Maintain compliance with ICH-GCP, regulatory requirements, sponsor requirements, and applicable ICON Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Promote a culture of quality and inspection readiness across all Data Management activities.
• Represent Data Management during internal audits, sponsor audits, regulatory inspections, and quality reviews.
• Ensure audit observations and corrective actions are addressed appropriately and closed within agreed timelines.
• Drive adherence to quality management processes and continuous process improvement initiatives.

• Promote adoption of innovative technologies, automation opportunities, and data-driven solutions to enhance efficiency and quality.
• Contribute to the development and standardization of departmental processes, tools, and methodologies.
• Support organizational transformation initiatives aligned with strategic business objectives.
• Act as a trusted partner to clients and sponsors by maintaining strong professional relationships and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
• Provide leadership and strategic input during client meetings, governance reviews, and operational discussions.
• Proactively communicate project status, risks, mitigation plans, and operational updates to key stakeholders.
• Maintain a strong understanding of evolving industry trends, emerging technologies, regulatory expectations, and best practices within Clinical Data Management.
• Serve as a knowledgeable ambassador for ISS Data Management during client visits, business development discussions, conferences, industry forums, audits, and inspections.
• Effectively articulate ISS Data Management capabilities, operational strengths, quality frameworks, and innovation initiatives to internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to strengthening the market presence and reputation of ISS Data Management through thought leadership and client engagement.

Additional Responsibilities

• Support ISS operational activities including employee onboarding, contingent workforce management, freelancer oversight, and associated operational processes.
• Manage competing priorities effectively while ensuring optimal team performance and service delivery.
• Perform additional duties and strategic initiatives as required to support organizational objectives.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

Required Experience

• Significant Clinical Data Management experience across the full clinical trial lifecycle.
• Extensive experience working with multiple EDC systems, data review platforms, and clinical reporting tools.
• Minimum of 2 years of people management experience, including performance management, workforce planning, recruitment, coaching, and career development.
• Demonstrated experience managing project delivery, operational metrics, and cross-functional stakeholder relationships.
• Experience supporting client engagements and sponsor interactions.
• Previous experience managing Team Leads or equivalent supervisory roles.
• Experience leading global or multi-functional teams within a matrix environment.
• Exposure to process improvement, quality management systems, and operational excellence initiatives.
