Manager, Community Wellness

Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person. Work primarily takes place at North Campus, Edmonton. The Manager, Community Wellness is responsible for overseeing end-to-end operational functions that support effective program delivery and strategic alignment. The role leads efforts to create a positive, inclusive work culture, while promoting continuous improvement, operational efficiency, and alignment with the Universities Strategic Framework. A key contributor to program success, this position ensures operational excellence through sound project management, resource planning, and data-driven decision-making. The Wellness Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for wellness programming that fosters the multi-dimensional well-being of students at the university. Development, implementation, and evaluation of health promotion initiatives, including prevention strategies that address mental, physical, and emotional health. Working collaboratively with internal and external partners, the Wellness Manager leads a highly diverse team and ensures services are inclusive, accessible, evidence-informed, student-centered, and aligned with institutional priorities. Project and Team Management Manage recruitment, onboarding, and off boarding of staff, volunteers, and practicum students in compliance with organizational policies. Responsible for leadership, strategic advice, and direction of NASA staff within the unit. Responsible for all performance management and disciplinary action up to and including termination for all NASA staff. Established clear performance expectations of staff, measures performance regularly and recognizes achievement. Evaluates employee performance, and holds staff accountable for meeting performance objectives. Designs and implements solutions to operational challenges. Makes continuous improvements to services, programs or operations to increase performance and deliver results. Supervise staff and program teams, ensuring alignment with program goals and performance expectations. Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that encourages collaboration, engagement, and shared ownership of outcomes. Serve as the primary point of contact for team-related concerns, resolving challenges and facilitating effective solutions. Coach staff in proactive problem-solving, risk mitigation, and conflict resolution. Provides operational oversight of unit resources, advocates for additional resources as required. Program Oversight and Strategic Alignment Lead the implementation of a campus-wide wellness strategy in alignment with the university's strategic plans and student experience priorities. Oversee the successful planning, delivery, and monitoring of multiple programs in alignment with organizational goals. Operationalize the Strategic Framework and Impact Measurement initiatives across relevant program areas. Identify emerging health and wellness trends to drive continuous improvement and adapt services accordingly. Participate in strategic planning discussions to help shape long-term program objectives. Oversees the implementation, and evaluations of the units strategic goals ensuring continuous alignment with SSE and University strategic direction. Ensures that team projects and programming align with identified strategic priorities and objectives. Resource and Financial Management Manage staff and program resources to ensure optimal capacity utilization and financial accountability. Monitor and forecast staffing and operational resource needs across all programs. Develop tools and systems for resource tracking, planning, and reporting. Data Analysis and Reporting Collect, analyze, and interpret data to identify trends, risks, and areas for improvement. Prepare and deliver regular reports to leadership that include key insights, metrics, and actionable recommendations. Support data-informed planning and strategic decision-making by embedding analysis into program operations. Strategic Collaboration and Leadership Support Collaborate with leadership to implement strategies that support organizational goals and continuous improvement. Post-secondary degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Sector, Social Sciences, Health Sciences, or a related field. Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in program operations, including team leadership and project management. Experience in a nonprofit, education, or human services environment is considered an asset. Understanding of human resources practices including recruitment, onboarding, and employee engagement. Familiarity with nonprofit or program-based operational management, including budgeting and resource planning. Knowledge of project management methodologies and continuous improvement principles. Strong knowledge of equity-informed, trauma-informed, person-centred and culturally responsive approaches to wellness. Understanding of data analytics for program evaluation and performance measurement. Strong leadership and supervisory skills with experience in team development. Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization skills with a focus on operational excellence. Advanced communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage internal and external stakeholders. Proficient in developing and using systems for resource management and data tracking. High emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills. Ability to think strategically while managing day-to-day operations. Ability to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships. Ability to adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Ability to interpret data and use insights to drive program and organizational improvement. The terms and conditions of this appointment are governed by Schedule F of the collective agreement between the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta and the Association of Academic Staff of the University of Alberta.
