POSITION PURPOSE

The Manager – Controls Engineering, Americas leads the regional Controls Engineering team responsible for supporting the development, sustainment, and performance of controls solutions for Americas products. The role provides people leadership and technical guidance across controls engineering activities, including electrical/hardware, firmware/software, and field-support needs.

This position is responsible for developing team capability, managing engineering priorities and project execution, and supporting the consistent application and improvement of controls engineering practices and standards. The role partners with Product & Controls Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Global Engineering, and other stakeholders to support regional product and business needs.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Americas Controls Engineering team, establishing priorities, expectations, and accountability for individual, team, and project performance.
  • Manage controls development and sustaining activities for Americas products, ensuring work is completed in alignment with project requirements, schedules, quality expectations, and business priorities.
  • Provide technical guidance and design oversight across controls hardware, firmware/software, electrical schematics, control-panel design, wiring, system architecture, and testing.
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of regional controls engineering processes, design practices, common architectures, and reusable solutions.
  • Support the implementation and continuous improvement of BAC Controls Standards within the Americas in coordination with Product & Controls Engineering and Global Engineering.
  • Ensure regional controls solutions are developed in accordance with applicable performance, regulatory, and electrical requirements, including UL 508A, NEC/NFPA 70, SCCR, NEMA, UL, and CE requirements, as applicable.
  • Partner with Product Engineering and cross-functional stakeholders to support product development, ETO requirements, manufacturing needs, and other regional business priorities.
  • Coordinate controls field-support activities, including startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer training, and provide technical guidance and escalation support for complex controls issues.
  • Provide technical leadership for manufacturing and production-line controls issues, supporting troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Support controls-related warranty performance by evaluating technical issues, identifying trends, coordinating appropriate engineering resources, and supporting corrective actions.
  • Manage technical relationships with controls hardware and panel suppliers and support the evaluation of supplier solutions against BAC technical and quality requirements.
  • Monitor project and team performance, assess resource and capability needs, and manage technical, resource, cost, and schedule considerations across controls priorities.
  • Support employee development through coaching, technical mentoring, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Collaborate with Product & Controls Engineering and other stakeholders to identify technical risks, resource needs, and opportunities to improve controls engineering capability and execution.
  • Perform work in accordance with BAC's Code of Conduct, Business Ethics standards, and applicable safety requirements.

NATURE AND SCOPE

The Manager, Controls Engineering, Americas reports to the Manager, Product & Controls Engineering, Americas and is responsible for the day-to-day leadership and execution of the regional Controls Engineering function.

The position leads a Controls Engineering team consisting of controls software/firmware engineers, hardware/electrical engineers, and controls support resources. The Controls Support Lead provides day-to-day leadership to controls field-support technicians. The Manager balances team resources and priorities across product development, sustaining engineering, manufacturing support, field support, warranty, and other regional controls-related needs.

The role works closely with Product & Controls Engineering, Product Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Global Engineering, and other regional and global stakeholders. The position may also interact with customers, contractors, and controls hardware and panel suppliers to support technical and business requirements.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related discipline required; advanced degree or graduate-level technical certification preferred.
  • 7+ years of Controls Engineering or related experience, including 1+ years of people-management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical functions and organizational levels.
  • Strong technical knowledge of controls engineering, including electrical hardware, firmware, software, and controls system architecture.
  • Experience with PLCs, Structured Text, C/C++, and control algorithm development.
  • Strong electrical and digital hardware competency, including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, control-panel design, I/O selection, and component specification.
  • Knowledge of motor-control hardware, including VFDs, contactors, overloads, motor protection, grounding/bonding, and power distribution.
  • Experience developing and reviewing testing strategies for controls software, firmware, and hardware.
  • Working knowledge of applicable electrical and regulatory standards, including UL 508A, NEC/NFPA 70, SCCR, NEMA, UL, and CE requirements.
  • Demonstrated project-management skills, including the ability to manage priorities, budgets, schedules, resources, and technical trade-offs.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to operate independently in complex technical situations.
  • Experience with engineering and development tools such as Jira, GitHub, and MATLAB; experience working within Agile/Scrum environments preferred.

This role will work in an office environment, with occasional trips to the BAC R&D Lab or manufacturing facilities, where heat, cold, humidity and noise may be experienced.

BAC Hiring Compensation Range $98,400 - 168,900
