Manager, Credit

The Manager, Credit provides leadership, oversight and direction to Stride Credit Union’s credit risk function. As leader of the Credit and Collections Department, this position works together with the Ag and Commercial and Retail lending functions to ensure Stride’s lending portfolio is effectively managed, reviewed and remains adherent to lending policies. The Manager, Credit spearheads initiatives that strengthen credit risk management, portfolio oversight, loss prevention and operational effectiveness.

What you'll get to do:

• Provide leadership and oversight to the Credit and Collections Department, ensuring all credit applications are compliant with credit union policy and collections activities are in alignment with organizational goals
• Assess credit applications by analyzing quantitative information, such as financial statements, risk models and banking system data, alongside qualitative factors such as market and economic conditions
• Support the development, review and continuous refinement of credit risk policies, including the credit concentration policy and lending policy
• Minimize lending risks through diligent and proactive financial reviews and an awareness of changing economic and industry trends
• Review, challenge and provide recommendations on significant credit exposures, policy exceptions and emerging portfolio risks
• Provide practical credit risk advice and respectfully challenge perspectives, enabling informed credit decisions that balance member needs, portfolio quality and organization objectives.
• Recognize and communicate cross-sell and referrals opportunities identified in credit applications
• Proactively review delinquency, recovery and write-off trends, and recommend initiatives that minimize organizational losses and improve member outcomes
• Monitor and evaluate the performance of collection activities; holding the department accountable for results while identifying opportunities for continuous improvement
• Proactively identify emerging risks and recommend actions to mitigate
• Develop annual plans, departmental goals, and accountability frameworks that align with organizational priorities and drive measurable outcomes
• Lead, coach, and develop team members fostering a high-performance and continuously improving culture

Who we are looking for:

• You have post-secondary education plus 7-9 years of job-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education or experience
• You are an experienced credit risk leader who balances prudent risk management with practical member focused solutions
• You have a sound understanding of credit union policies, regulatory requirements and prudent lending practices
• You have excellent communication, relationship building, analytical and decision making skills

This is a hybrid work opportunity, however, some travel to Stride Credit Union branches will be required based on business needs. The successful candidate must live in Manitoba and be willing to work in-branch as required.
