Black Diamond Group’s AI and Business Automation department has a full-time position for Manager, Data Architecture position.
Reporting to the GM, AI & Business Automation, the Manager, Data Architecture leads the hands-on development and evolution of its enterprise DataHub and data architecture. This is a senior individual-contributor role combining architecture leadership with direct technical delivery. Approximately 75% of the role will be hands-on, including data modelling, SQL development, pipeline development, integration design, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.
Black Diamond Group currently operates an Azure SQL-based DataHub within the Microsoft technology ecosystem. The successful candidate will strengthen the existing platform, mature the organization’s medallion architecture, deliver trusted enterprise data products, and assess the appropriate future use of Microsoft Fabric and related technologies.
The role will initially operate as the primary internal technical lead for the DataHub. It will work closely with business stakeholders, application owners, analysts, vendors, and implementation partners while establishing standards that can support an expanded data team over time.
The ideal candidate we're looking for is a collaborative data leader who is passionate about building scalable, well-governed data solutions that enable better reporting, automation, and AI-driven decision making. This person enjoys balancing strategy with hands-on problem solving, mentoring a team, and partnering across the business to drive meaningful transformation.
This role is hybrid - in-office with 20% flexibility to work from home.

Responsibilities
Data Platform Development
- Design, build, test, deploy, and support enterprise data solutions.
- Develop and maintain data ingestion, transformation, reconciliation, and publishing processes.
- Write and review production SQL, stored procedures, views, data transformations, and validation rules.
- Establish reusable patterns for onboarding new data sources.
- Improve monitoring, logging, error handling, restartability, testing, and operational support.
- Troubleshoot issues across source applications, integrations, the DataHub, semantic models, reports, and downstream solutions.
- Reduce reliance on manual extracts, spreadsheet-based transformations, duplicated logic, and unsupported data processes.
- Ensure production solutions are maintained under source control, documented, and supportable by resources other than the original developer.
- Lead the implementation and maturation of intake, bronze, silver, and gold data layers.
- Define standards for data quality, traceability, reconciliation, security, and promotion between layers.
- Design relational, dimensional, canonical, and semantic data models.
- Identify authoritative data sources and establish consistent definitions for critical business information.
- Define where transformations and business rules should reside across source applications, integration services, the DataHub, Power BI, and downstream solutions.
- Maintain architecture diagrams, source-to-target mappings, data flows, data models, and technical decision records.
- Establish practical approaches for historical data, incremental processing, schema changes, reference data, and data-quality exceptions.
- Support the progressive unification of customer, asset, project and contract, vendor, and employee data.
- Design and improve data integrations across enterprise applications and external data sources.
- Work with platforms including NetSuite, Salesforce, Boomi, Oracle EPM, SuccessFactors, ADP, Power BI, and operational systems.
- Establish reusable integration and data-exchange patterns.
- Resolve inconsistent identifiers, data definitions, and business rules across systems.
- Ensure integrations include appropriate validation, reconciliation, monitoring, security, and supportability.
- Develop trusted and reusable data products for reporting, analytics, automation, and operational use.
- Design and support dimensional models and Power BI semantic models.
- Centralize important measures, dimensions, and business definitions where practical.
- Work with business stakeholders to translate reporting and analytical requirements into maintainable technical solutions.
- Strengthen and mature the existing Azure SQL-based DataHub.
- Assess the appropriate phased use of Microsoft Fabric and related Microsoft services.
- Recommend platform changes based on business value, scalability, cost, security, supportability, and complexity.
- Establish practical development, testing, deployment, security, and monitoring standards.
- Design secure methods for AI-enabled solutions to access structured and unstructured enterprise data.
- Support technologies and patterns such as retrieval-augmented generation, semantic search, embeddings, vector search, and controlled AI-agent access.
- Help move approved AI use cases from prototype into secure and supportable production use.
- Ensure appropriate controls for confidential, employee, financial, personal, and commercially sensitive information.
- Provide technical architecture advice supporting Black Diamond Group’s AI governance processes.
- Operate effectively as the initial standalone technical lead for the DataHub.
- Provide technical direction to vendors, consultants, analysts, developers, and application specialists.
- Review technical designs, code, estimates, documentation, and vendor deliverables.
- Establish standards and patterns that future team members can adopt.
- Mentor internal resources as the data capability expands.
- Recommend future data-platform resource requirements as organizational needs mature.
- Communicate technical risks, recommendations, priorities, and trade-offs clearly to senior leaders and business stakeholders.
- Ensure important technical and operational knowledge remains within Black Diamond Group.
- Significant experience designing and delivering enterprise data platforms.
- Recent hands-on experience building production data pipelines, integrations, transformations, and data models.
- Advanced SQL skills.
- Strong experience with Azure SQL Server or another enterprise relational data platform.
- Experience with data warehouse, DataHub, lakehouse, or medallion architecture.
- Strong relational and dimensional data-modelling skills.
- Experience integrating enterprise applications through APIs, files, integration platforms, and incremental processing.
- Experience implementing data validation, reconciliation, monitoring, logging, error handling, and automated testing.
- Experience with enterprise reporting and semantic models, preferably Power BI.
- Practical experience supporting analytics, automation, or AI solutions using governed enterprise data.
- Experience applying source control, deployment, and production-support practices to data solutions.
- Ability to independently move from business requirements through design, development, deployment, and support.
- Strong technical communication and documentation skills.
