Position Summary The Manager of DevOps plays an important role in the organization by performing numerous activities related to the company’s Information Technology functions. At a high level, the role is primarily responsible for providing first-line leadership for a team of DevOps engineers and ensuring predictable execution of technology initiatives supporting enterprise, platform, transformation, and business priorities. This role is responsible for the day-to-day people leadership, delivery execution, capacity management, technical coordination, and stakeholder escalation for an assigned DevOps engineering team. The Manager establishes clear priorities, balances engineering capacity across concurrent initiatives and operational responsibilities, develops team members, removes delivery obstacles, and ensures accountability for committed outcomes. The Manager of DevOps also leads and matures engineering practices related to continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD), infrastructure-as-code (IaC), deployment and configuration automation, environment governance, platform access services, security and vulnerability remediation, and cloud and platform engineering. The role works closely with Software Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Platform Data Operations (DataOps), Infrastructure Operations, Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, business technology teams, and other stakeholders to ensure DevOps resources are effectively aligned to enterprise priorities. The Manager partners with the Director of Cloud & Platform Operations to execute DevOps strategy and operational plans. The Director retains overall accountability for DevOps and the broader Cloud & Platform Operations organization, while the Manager provides focused day-to-day leadership, delivery accountability, and employee development for the assigned DevOps team. Compensation This role is an exempt position with a Targeted Salary Range of $144,000 to $210,000 annually. Compensation at Guild is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to local and federal minimum wage requirements, education, level of experience, and applicant’s geographical location. Essential Functions People Leadership & Team Management Lead, mentor, coach, and develop an assigned team of DevOps engineers to achieve focused, timely, and measurable results. Provide consistent first-line leadership based on organizational Establish clear individual and team expectations, priorities, objectives, and accountability for results. Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance discussions, career development planning, coaching, and employee feedback. Develop technical talent and organizational capability through mentoring, skills development, cross-training, knowledge sharing, and succession planning. Identify skill gaps and partner with the Director to develop hiring, training, and workforce plans that support current and future technology needs. Promote team engagement and retention through consistent leadership, meaningful development opportunities, clear expectations, and recognition of contributions. Reduce key-person dependencies by promoting documentation, knowledge transfer, cross-training, engineering standards, and shared ownership. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, learning, innovation, and operational excellence. Promote effective collaboration and appropriate distribution of work to reduce unnecessary engineer context switching. Perform other duties as assigned. Delivery Execution & Capacity Management Own day-to-day delivery execution for DevOps initiatives and engineering commitments within the Manager’s assigned area of responsibility. Translate organizational priorities and strategic direction into actionable team plans, engineering work, milestones, and deliverables. Manage team capacity, resource allocation, sprint planning, backlog prioritization, project commitments, operational support, and competing priorities. Maintain visibility into team workload, delivery commitments, dependencies, risks, and resource constraints. Balance planned project delivery with operational responsibilities, security remediation, platform maintenance, technical debt, and unplanned work. Establish clear ownership and accountability for initiatives and deliverables assigned to the team. Monitor delivery progress and proactively address risks, dependencies, resource constraints, and impediments that could affect committed outcomes. Improve delivery predictability through disciplined planning, prioritization, capacity management, dependency management, and execution. Establish and track appropriate delivery and operational metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Coordinate DevOps engineering support across multiple concurrent enterprise, business, security, platform, and transformation initiatives. Ensure engineering resources are aligned to the highest-priority work based on organizational direction and available capacity. Escalate material delivery, resource, technical, security, or organizational risks to the Director of Cloud & Platform Operations when appropriate. Provide the Director with clear visibility into team performance, capacity, delivery status, risks, dependencies, and emerging needs. Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Leadership Serve as the primary day-to-day DevOps leadership contact for assigned business, product, engineering, security, and technology domains. Build productive working relationships with Software Engineering, SRE, Infrastructure Operations, Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, Governance/Risk/Compliance, and business technology teams. Provide stakeholder escalation and issue resolution for DevOps delivery, resource, platform, and operational concerns. Communicate delivery status, risks, dependencies, resource constraints, and tradeoffs clearly to technical and business stakeholders. Coordinate cross-functional work where delivery requires collaboration among DevOps, application engineering, infrastructure, security, SRE, architecture, and other teams. Ensure dependencies and handoffs between teams are identified, communicated, and actively managed. Represent DevOps in project planning, delivery coordination, operational readiness, and other cross-functional forums as appropriate. Partner with the Director on significant stakeholder escalations, organizational priorities, and cross-functional transformation efforts. DevOps Engineering Responsibilities Provide technical and operational leadership for enterprise DevOps capabilities, tooling, processes, and engineering practices. Lead the implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of enterprise CI/CD pipelines and software delivery automation. Establish and reinforce DevOps standards and engineering practices that support reliable, repeatable, secure, and scalable application delivery. Partner with Software Engineering teams to improve build, test, release, and deployment processes. Drive infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, and deployment automation practices supporting repeatable infrastructure and environment provisioning. Establish environment governance and engineering practices that improve consistency across development, testing, staging, and production environments. Lead automation and standardization initiatives that reduce manual effort, operational risk, and deployment complexity. Develop reusable DevOps patterns, templates, pipelines, automation frameworks, and self-service capabilities that improve engineering productivity. Manage and improve DevOps platform capabilities and services, including source control, CI/CD, artifact management, API development tooling, configuration automation, and related engineering platforms. Support the operational maturity, governance, availability, and lifecycle management of enterprise DevOps platforms and tooling. Evaluate DevOps tools and technologies and make recommendations regarding platform capabilities, engineering standards, lifecycle management, and modernization. Identify and resolve systemic bottlenecks in software delivery, deployment, configuration, and engineering workflows. Stay current with emerging DevOps technologies, cloud-native practices, platform engineering approaches, infrastructure automation, and software delivery trends. Security, Risk & Governance Responsibilities Partner with Information Security and engineering teams to integrate security controls and security validation into automated software delivery processes. Lead or coordinate DevOps engineering activities supporting vulnerability remediation and technology risk reduction. Support supply-chain security, secrets management, identity and access controls, platform permissions, encryption, and related security initiatives within the DevOps domain. Ensure DevOps platforms and delivery pipelines provide appropriate access controls, separation of duties, traceability, and auditability. Coordinate timely remediation of DevOps-related security findings, vulnerabilities, control gaps, and platform risks. Partner with Governance/Risk/Compliance and Information Security teams to provide appropriate evidence and support for audits and control assessments. Incorporate security and risk work into team capacity and delivery planning rather than treating remediation as unplanned or secondary work. Platform, Cloud & Operational Responsibilities Support cloud migration, cloud engineering, platform modernization, and enterprise transformation initiatives requiring DevOps capabilities. Partner with Infrastructure Operations, Enterprise Architecture, and application teams to improve cloud and platform engineering capabilities. Support platform access services and developer tooling used by enterprise engineering teams. Improve automation, standardization, documentation, and operational readiness across supported platforms and services. Partner with SRE and application teams to integrate monitoring, logging, observability, alerting, and operational readiness requirements into application delivery. Ensure DevOps platforms and delivery capabilities meet defined availability, resiliency, scalability, and recoverability requirements. Participate in incident management, escalation response, root cause analysis, and corrective actions involving DevOps platforms or software delivery processes. Support enterprise disaster recovery, business continuity, resiliency, and failover readiness initiatives. Ensure production changes are executed through established governance, change management, and release management practices. Identify opportunities to automate repetitive operational work and reduce manual intervention and operational toil. Collaborate with engineering teams to improve application supportability, deployment reliability, and production readiness. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field to the position or equivalent, preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the Bachelor’s degree. Minimum of 7 years' experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, software engineering, SRE, systems engineering, or related technology disciplines. Experience supporting enterprise software delivery, automation, and cloud-hosted applications strongly preferred. Minimum of 3 years' experience directly managing and developing technical professionals preferred. Demonstrated experience with employee coaching, performance management, career development, resource planning, workload prioritization, and delivery accountability. Relevant cloud, DevOps, infrastructure-as-code, container platform, or related technical certifications preferred but not required. Strong people leadership skills with demonstrated ability to coach, develop, motivate, and retain technical professionals. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams while maintaining clear priorities, ownership, capacity visibility, and delivery accountability. Strong resource and capacity management skills, including the ability to balance planned initiatives, operational responsibilities, security remediation, and unplanned work. Proven ability to improve delivery predictability through effective planning, prioritization, dependency management, risk management, and execution. Ability to identify and reduce key-person dependencies through cross-training, documentation, knowledge sharing, and engineering standardization. Strong stakeholder management skills with experience setting expectations, communicating tradeoffs, managing escalations, and coordinating delivery across multiple technical and business teams. Strong knowledge of enterprise DevOps practices, software delivery automation, cloud technologies, and platform engineering principles. Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, configuration management, deployment automation, and environment management. Experience supporting enterprise-scale cloud-hosted applications, platforms, and software delivery environments. Experience with modern source control, artifact management, CI/CD, API tooling, configuration automation, and deployment technologies. Strong understanding of cloud-native technologies, containers, APIs, scripting, infrastructure automation, and related engineering frameworks. Knowledge of observability, monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational telemetry practices. Understanding of DevSecOps practices, vulnerability management, software supply-chain security, identity and access management, secrets management, encryption, and technology risk management. Knowledge of incident management, change management, release governance, disaster recovery, and operational resiliency practices. Demonstrated ability to maintain sufficient technical depth to guide engineers, challenge assumptions, facilitate technical decisions, and assist with complex troubleshooting without becoming a bottleneck for the team. Experience partnering with Software Engineering, SRE, Infrastructure Operations, Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, Governance/Risk/Compliance, and other enterprise technology Ability to translate strategic direction into clear team objectives, priorities, roadmaps, and measurable outcomes. Strong analytical, organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities. Manual Dexterity: Ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards. Audio/Visual: Regularly required to accurately perceive, distinguish and interpret information received visually and through audio; e.g., words, numbers and other data broadcasted aloud/viewed on a screen, as well as print and other media. Environmental: Office environment – moderate noise, no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Travel: 5 - 10% Mental: Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, and make timely decisions in the context of a workflow.
