The Universal Group, recognized as one of Canada's Best Managed companies in 2026, has an exciting opportunity for a the Team Lead, HRIS & Technology that serves as the system owner for the organization’s HRIS and peripheral technology ecosystem and subject matter expert for systems integration. This role is responsible for the planning, implementation, and management of HR platforms, ensuring data integrity, access security, and the delivery of actionable workforce reporting. The Lead bridges the technology gap between HR and IT, Operations, Payroll, and Finance by aligning technology solutions with operational goals to enhance data driven decisions.
What you will be responsible for:
HR Technology
- Serve as the centralized owner for HR technology platforms, managing vendor relationships, system configurations, and compliance with data privacy regulations.
- Requirement gathering, legacy data migration, and systems validation.
- HR lead on Finance systems including Payroll (ADP, Sage, Quickbooks), and eventually ERP.
- Manage system security access structure, configuration, and workflows.
- Oversee integration and alignment of new company acquisitions into the existing HR system environment to ensure employee data centralization.
- Lead the change management lifecycle for technology deployments, including stakeholder impact assessments, communication planning, and the delivery of end-user training to drive system adoption and minimize change resistance.
Data Analytics & Strategic Reporting
- Design data visualizations relating to people and organizational intelligence to support data-driven decision making.
- Collaborate with HR teams, and other departments on complex data projects.
- Establish and uphold consistent and dependable reporting standards.
- Determine and maintain a comprehensive HR data governance framework that defines data ownership, standardization protocols, and quality benchmarks to ensure a "single source of truth" across all integrated business systems.
- Perform audits of data practices and HR processes to maintain data integrity, credibility, and compliance.
Leadership & Process Optimization
- Supervise and mentor the HR Analyst, providing workload management support, technical guidance, and performance feedback.
- Identify opportunities to enhance HR processes through automation and quality improvements.
- Development and maintenance of HR system Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), user guides, and training modules for system users across the organization.
- Map data flows between HRIS and other departmental systems to facilitate cross-functional data usage.
Risk Management
- Identify and communicate potential risks, while evaluating the level of probability.
- Ensuring HR technology, system configurations, data storage methods comply with provincial and federal privacy laws, and internal policies.
- Monitors system release updates and system status changes, and perform system upgrade testing to minimize potential technical or data-related disruptions.
- Development and maintenance of "report generating instructions" and backups to ensure reporting continuity.
What we need from you:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5-8 years of proven experience in HRIS management, system optimization, and project management.
- Advanced knowledge of HR Operations & Technology ecosystem (HRIS, payroll, ERP, time & attendance, integrations).
- Adept in complex formulas, pivot tables, and database management.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills for training and reporting.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or CPHR designation is an asset.
