The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is seeking a Managing Director to join our Program Management Office (PMO). The Managing Director has overall responsibility for leading the National ADA Camping Program. The PMO elevates all project work focusing on efficiency, effectiveness, and collaboration of all project teams. Managing Director is responsible for internal and partner relationships, strategy, people development and management, volunteer recruitment and training, risk and medical management, financial viability and opportunities, overall stewardship, and overall communication to accomplish the ADA goals of Camps.

Reporting to Senior Vice President, PMO, this individual will guide budget management, initiative resourcing, and program deliverable strategies while promoting consistency in best practices across projects and portfolios. The Managing Director ensures strategic alignment and effective program delivery and fostering collaboration across teams. The Managing Director will supervise, lead, and mentor a team with a mix of camp field staff and operational team members.

Responsibilities

  • Leads, operationalizes, and ensures the safety of camps, prioritizing and delivering multiple camps across the United States.
  • Supervises and leads the ADA Camp team to execute standards, Association policies, family stewardship plans, and ensures sustainability of Camps.
  • Identifies, manages, and coordinates a plan for stewardship of key relationships including, but not limited to, pediatric endocrinology groups, pediatricians, children’s hospitals, schools, families, and other community partners.
  • Meets revenue goals related to donated goods and services and program service fees across all camp programs.
  • Develops budget and monitors financial performance within revenue and expense parameters. In partnership with the Marketing and Communications Teams ensures year-round communication with families, volunteers, and partners and development of an overall brand awareness strategy.
  • Anticipated travel can be up to 50% especially during the months of May-August. Willingness to travel to support and lead staff teams in delivery of programs.
  • Builds a standard for the logistics of ordering, receiving and storing of all necessary supplies to execute initiatives.
  • Hires, develops, and supervises Camp staff.
  • Ensures facility contracts are received, reviewed and approved by Legal and the appropriate stakeholders.
  • Leads, implements and follows Association medical, crisis, and risk management procedures.
  • Oversees database management for youth, young adults, families, alumni, and donors, utilizing Association resources and databases such as Salesforce and UltraCamp.
  • Attends Association and American Camp Association required trainings and presents at national conferences as applicable.
  • Collaborates with stakeholder teams that drive program success among Development, Marketing, Communications, HR, IT, Finance, Legal, Quality, and Scientific teams.
  • Determines appropriate needs, strategy, onboarding, and training for seasonal and contract staff, in partnership with HR.
  • Follows established organization policies, procedures, and information protocols.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, or equivalent experience/work history in Health Education, Youth Development, Recreation, Public health, Health Administration, Business Administration, Project Management, or other related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of full-time, year-round camp and youth program management experience
  • Management and supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and relationship-building effectiveness in one-on-one and group settings across all levels of corporate, medical and community leaders, volunteers and staff.
  • Experience working in these areas: CIT Programs, Committee Governance, ACA accreditation, Family Engagement, Staff Trainings, Policy and Procedure development
  • 2 years’ experience in Emergency Management Response
  • At least 25 years old as required by the American Camp Association (ACA) guidelines
  • Knowledge of business requirements for managing summer camp programs and/or youth development programs
  • Experience in volunteer recruitment, development, or management with an emphasis on camp program delivery.
  • Travel: 50%, including but not limited to significant travel during the summer camp months, camp site visits throughout the year, two team meetings in the home office (generally late January and the second week of November) and ACA meetings or conferences.
  • Ability to lift or carry up to 25 pounds.
