Managing Director, Head of Fund Accounting
UltimusThe Managing Director, Head of Fund Accounting provides strategic oversight and direction to the Fund Accounting Department. Direct reports include SVPs and may include VPs. The ability to provide strong leadership, vision, and technical guidance to executive management as well as to the overall department is essential. Mastery of complex accounting skills is also required. This position serves as a resource across teams and functional areas, providing guidance, coaching, training and support as needed.
Key Accountabilities
- Strong leadership skills over fund accounting operations, ensuring the work quality and overall client satisfaction is high.
- Drive technical and developmental training initiatives; demonstrate ability with fund accounting concepts at a high level required.
- Partner with business development in sales presentations for new business opportunities including identifying new service opportunities to expand the firm’s service offerings
- Drives continuous improvement in the operating model including technology opportunities such as Artificial Intelligence
- Engage in industry associations and events to stay current on regulations, the market place and the competitive landscape
Strategic Planning
- Provides leadership and consulting support to company executives and management on matters of people management, goal setting, policy development, and strategic implementation in support of achieving corporate objectives and business growth.
- Develops and executes the annual Strategic Plan and communicates said Plan to the department; participates in daily, monthly, and quarterly meetings with executive management regarding department issues.
- Conceptualizes and implements initiatives to support business objectives.
- Ensures department resources are adequate for complete and timely reporting to clients and NASDAQ and in accordance with existing quality and quantity standards, policies, and procedures.
- Works with the Executive team to establish long-range goals, strategies, plans, and policies and reviews suggested implementation for system upgrades.
- Identifies ways to make the team more efficient; recommends fund allocations, process changes, etc.; Ensures the training team has the tools and resources necessary to increase the overall knowledge of the department.
Compliance
- Reviews compliance with various regulatory restrictions and recommends changes to accounting procedures.
- Coordinates the disaster recovery efforts for the department.
- Provides guidance and support to independent SOC1 audits by performing research, pulling documentation, answering questions, and coordinating the teams’ input.
- Reviews operational controls for adequacy, compliance, and integrity of data; updates documents and communicates procedural changes to the department.
Personal Management
- Oversees the management of associates within the department including, but not limited to, holding managers accountable for hiring, training, and developing associates, delegating work assignments, writing, and conducting performance appraisals, salary recommendations, coaching and counseling, and administering corrective actions.
- Conducts one-on-one and team meetings on a regular basis to discuss new procedures, problems, and issues.
- Establishes team and individual goals for department.
- Fosters performance of managers and associates and the processes used by them; holds the team accountable for their work.
Working Relationships
- Communicates changes and company information via small and large group meetings.
- Mentors through instruction, coaching, providing real-time on-the-job experiences, modeling effective practices, and advising on methods used.
- Oversees the management of client requests and ensures the needs of clients are met.
- Communicates as needed with fund administration, transfer agency, and funds’ custodian regarding fund accounting-related activities. May perform other duties as requested and assigned.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- 15+ years of experience in a related field.
- 10+ years in strategic senior leadership roles.
- Equivalent education, experience, and KSA’s will be considered.
Physical and Other Requirements
- At times, as business needs arise, associates are required and agree to work beyond their normal workday or work week to fulfill the accountabilities required for their job.

- The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10lbs.
