Salary up to £50,000 (incl. 20% shift allowance) depending on experience
Renishaw has a requirement for a New Products Manufacturing Engineer to support the introduction of new products into a highly complex and challenging precision manufacturing environment.
The role will be responsible for developing robust and efficient manufacturing processes for new and developing products, working closely with Design, Production, Quality and other engineering teams from early development through to production handover. This will include providing Design for Manufacture (DFM) input, developing manufacturing strategies and processes, supporting prototype and pre-production builds, and ensuring products are ready for repeatable manufacture.
The successful candidate will also drive improvements in quality, product cost, process capability, efficiency, lead time and waste reduction, while ensuring appropriate manufacturing documentation, process controls and technical knowledge are in place before handover to Production.
The vacancy is within the New Mills New Products Engineering milling team and is for a double-day shift pattern (Week 1: Monday to Thursday 6am - 2pm, Friday 6am - 12:12pm, Week 2: Monday to Thursday 1pm - 9pm, Friday 12:12pm - 6:24pm)
Responsibilities
- Manufacturing engineering support throughout the New Product Introduction process, from early DFM through to production handover.
- Introduction and development of robust manufacturing processes and associated production documentation.
- Development of manufacturing strategies to achieve required quality, cost, capability, lead time and capacity.
- Support of prototype and pre-production builds, including process proving and optimisation.
- Investigation of manufacturing problems and root cause analysis, with implementation of robust corrective actions.
- Analysis of process performance data to identify and deliver continuous improvement activities.
- Work closely with Design, Production, Quality and supporting functions to ensure new products are ready for repeatable manufacture.
- Support the effective handover of new products and manufacturing processes into Production.
Key requirements
- Degree level education in a relevant technical discipline such as, Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering or Manufacturing Systems. Or a HNC/HND level education with significant experience in a related engineering field.
- Knowledge of CNC manufacturing and CAD/CAM systems.
- Good communication and PC skills and the ability to work with minimal support.
- Experience working with fine tolerances and the ability to work on precision equipment.
- The ability to understand technical drawings and geometric tolerances.
- A focused approach to waste reduction and product / process cost reduction.
Desirable requirements
- Proven success in the support and improving of technically challenging, high precision engineering processes.
- Successful application of structured problem solving and statistical analysis techniques.
- A good understanding of production metrics such as, productivity, efficiency, waste and cost of quality.
- Mechanical design awareness including tooling, jigs, fixtures and process models.
- Understanding of metrology, measurement techniques and calibration.
- Previous experience in macro programming.
Person specification
The successful applicant will have a strong technical background with a hands‑on approach and be able to demonstrate success in the support and development of complex, technically challenging processes. Attention to detail and the determination and tenacity to resolve technical problems where a solution is not immediately apparent.
