Show job description

Company description: SwissWiper is a Swiss precision hardware company building glass protection systems. Our first series, The Perpetual, is a mechanical system for shower and bath enclosures that clears the glass after every shower, with no chemicals, no electronics and no maintenance. It is driven by a gear movement in the manner of a Swiss watch and engineered to last 10 to 15 years.

Every unit is made to measure for its enclosure. We work with hotels, residential developers, interior designers and architects worldwide, and offer the product private customers in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Italy through www.swisswiper.com

Designed and Engineered in Switzerland.

Role description: This Mechanical Engineer role is based in Zurich in a hybrid working model and is open as part-time or full-time, starting as soon as possible.

You will work directly with our CPO to turn a working design into a product that is proven, measured and ready for production. Your work will cover selecting materials for metal and elastomer components; running static and fatigue analysis to define breaking points, safety margins and product lifetime; calculating loads and weight distribution across rails, clamps and mounting points; refining the geared movement and bearings for smooth, precise motion; and defining measurements, tolerances and fits across all moving parts.

You will also build and run cycle tests to validate lifetime and blade replacement intervals, document results, and work with our suppliers on design for manufacturing. This is a role in a small founding team, with a real say in the product from an early stage.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field
  • Proven experience taking physical products from concept to series production
  • SolidWorks as your daily tool for parts, assemblies and technical drawings
  • SolidWorks Simulation for static, fatigue and contact analysis
  • Tolerance stack-up analysis and GD&T to ISO GPS standards
  • Material knowledge across aluminium, stainless steel and elastomers
  • Experience with DFM/DFA principles and working directly with suppliers
  • Hands-on approach to prototyping, testing and data analysis
  • Background in precision mechanics such as watchmaking, or in architectural, glass or sanitary hardware, is a strong plus
  • Available to start quickly
  • Fluent English required; German, French or Italian is an advantage
