Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on reviewing, validating, and coordinating all mechanical design packages for a large industrial Factory 1 construction project. The position covers both wet and dry mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, cooling towers, chillers, and associated structural coordination. The engineer ensures full compliance with relevant mechanical and plumbing codes, local authority requirements, and internal standards, while collaborating closely with the design Engineer of Record, the General Contractor, and internal stakeholders to resolve RFIs, design conflicts, and constructability issues. The role also supports permit submissions and thoroughly reviews contractor submittals to confirm alignment with the approved design intent.

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate mechanical design packages for industrial facility construction, including wet and dry systems such as HVAC, plumbing, cooling towers, and chillers.
  • Perform detailed mechanical design reviews at key engineering and construction milestones, with particular focus on HVAC and fire protection during the design stage.
  • Conduct thorough mechanical reviews and guide design packages through local authority permit processes, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Collaborate closely with the Engineer of Record and General Contractor to review RFIs and submittals, clarify design intent, and resolve technical questions.
  • Independently evaluate and disposition contractor submittals within the mechanical scope, ensuring alignment with approved drawings and specifications.
  • Drive timely RFI closure by coordinating with contractors, design teams, and internal stakeholders to resolve design conflicts and constructability issues.
  • Identify and redline mechanical drawings to catch coordination conflicts at the design stage, including structural and MEP interfaces.
  • Support design-change resolution during construction, ensuring changes remain compliant with codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Coordinate mechanical design and structural elements using BIM tools to achieve effective clash detection and multidisciplinary alignment.
  • Assist in preparing and supporting permit submissions to local authorities having jurisdiction, including documentation and technical clarifications.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and multidisciplinary design coordination meetings to improve installation efficiency and reduce field rework.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated experience with end-to-end mechanical design from concept through permit and construction-ready drawings for industrial or manufacturing facilities.
  • Experience in mechanical design review and validation for industrial or manufacturing construction projects, including drawing redlines and coordination conflict detection.
  • Strong technical knowledge of wet and dry mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, process cooling, cooling towers, chillers, and related mechanical infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with cooling water systems such as chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and pumps.
  • Solid understanding of air distribution systems, including air handling units, terminal units, fans, dehumidification, and exhaust systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial, manufacturing, semiconductor, robotics, data center, or other mission-critical facility projects.
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including ICC, ASHRAE, SMACNA, ANSI, and applicable mechanical and plumbing codes.
  • Experience taking mechanical design packages through local authority permit review processes.
  • Practical experience with RFI and submittal review in direct collaboration with an Engineer of Record and a General Contractor.
  • Ability to independently disposition contractor submittals and drive RFI closure in a construction-phase engineering environment.
  • Proficiency in Revit for mechanical design and coordination.
  • Experience with BIM-based clash detection for structural and MEP coordination.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced construction environment and drive issue resolution with contractors, design teams, and stakeholders.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, semiconductor, robotics, data center, or similar mission-critical facility projects is preferred.
  • Familiarity with IMC, IPC, ASHRAE, SMACNA, and ANSI standards, as well as local authority requirements.
  • Experience supporting AHJ permit reviews, including documentation preparation and technical responses.
  • Experience in contractor submittal management and RFI tracking and resolution.
  • Strong skills in constructability reviews, multidisciplinary coordination, and drawing redlines.
  • Experience with BIM clash detection tools for structural and MEP coordination is strongly preferred.
  • Revizto experience is preferred for design coordination and issue tracking.
  • PE license is a plus but not required.

Work Environment

This role is based in a dynamic, fast-paced construction and design environment focused on large industrial and mission-critical facilities. The Mechanical Engineer works closely with design engineers, general contractors, and internal stakeholders, using tools such as Revit, BIM-based clash detection platforms, and Revizto to coordinate structural and MEP systems. The environment involves regular design reviews, coordination meetings, and interaction with local authorities for permit processes. Work may include time in both office and construction-site settings, requiring attention to safety procedures and professional attire appropriate for design reviews and site visits. The culture emphasizes collaboration, technical excellence, and proactive issue resolution to deliver high-performance mechanical systems for complex industrial projects.
