Mechanical Engineering Co-Op
EmersonIf you are an engineering student looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson has an exciting opportunity for you. Based in Eden Prairie, MN, this full-time Mechanical Engineering Co-op position provides hands-on experience supporting new product development and enhancement projects. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges while gaining valuable experience in product design, prototyping, testing, and development. This co-op is a 40-hour-per-week position running from January 2027 through August 2027.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
- Partner directly with a lead mechanical engineer to support new product development and ongoing product improvement initiatives.
- Create computer-aided design (CAD) models and engineering drawings to support product development activities.
- Build and evaluate prototypes using 3D printing and machining technologies.
- Execute prototype testing to evaluate performance, durability, and environmental requirements.
- Apply engineering principles learned through coursework to practical product development projects.
- Gain exposure to multiple engineering disciplines and explore areas of interest prior to graduation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support engineering objectives and product development milestones.

For This Role, You Will Need:
- Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline. Junior or senior standing is preferred.
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) on-site in Eden Prairie, MN from January 2027 through August 2027.
- Strong interest in product design, development, testing, and engineering problem solving.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
- Experience or coursework involving CAD software, with SolidWorks knowledge preferred.
- Familiarity with machining processes and 3D printing technologies.
- Understanding of material properties and materials science fundamentals.
- Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Exposure to MATLAB, finite element analysis, or simulation tools such as Ansys Workbench.
- Experience gained through academic projects, student organizations, research, laboratory work, or internships.
