Why You Will Love this Job

Join Clarke Energy as a Mechanical and Piping Designer

At Clarke Energy, our Mechanical and Piping Designers play a key role in delivering the energy infrastructure that supports industry, businesses and communities across the UK and beyond. From initial concept through to installation and commissioning, you'll be involved in creating practical, high-quality mechanical and piping designs for complex power generation projects.

This role is ideal for a designer who enjoys turning engineering concepts into detailed, buildable solutions and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. You'll be part of a knowledgeable and supportive engineering function where quality, safety and continuous improvement are central to everything we do.

What you'll be doing

Creating designs from concept to completion

You'll develop mechanical and piping designs from an initial concept through to fully detailed engineering deliverables. Working closely with Mechanical Engineers and project teams, you'll create 3D models and detailed drawings that support the successful delivery of our projects.

This will include producing general arrangement drawings, detailed fabrication drawings, pipework layouts, equipment skid designs and installation details using AutoCAD and associated design tools.

Supporting projects from tender through delivery

You'll contribute to projects from the earliest stages, assisting Sales and Proposals teams with preliminary layouts and tender designs before developing these into complete design packages for execution.

Your designs will help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with customer requirements, technical standards and project schedules.

Working closely with engineering and site teams

Collaboration is a key part of the role. You'll work alongside Mechanical Engineers, Project Managers, Site Engineers and subcontractors to resolve technical challenges and ensure designs remain practical and achievable throughout the project lifecycle.

You'll also undertake site visits and surveys to gather project information, verify design requirements and support the production of accurate as-built documentation following installation.

Driving quality and continuous improvement

You'll contribute to the development and maintenance of component libraries and standardised design solutions, helping improve efficiency and consistency across the engineering function.

As with all roles at Clarke Energy, you'll work in accordance with our Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards, ensuring that safety and quality are built into every design.

About you

You're a detail-focused designer who takes pride in producing accurate, high-quality work. You enjoy solving technical challenges, managing multiple priorities and working collaboratively with colleagues from different disciplines.

You'll be customer-focused, proactive and adaptable, with a strong commitment to delivering the right solution for every project.

You'll likely bring:

  • A minimum of five years' experience designing and detailing piping installations
  • An OND/ONC in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline, supported by relevant industry experience
  • Experience and understanding of industrial mechanical systems, processes and applications
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 3D Modelling, AutoCAD Plant P&ID, AutoCAD Plant 3D and Autodesk Navis Review
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and effective communication skills
  • The ability to prioritise workload and perform effectively under pressure

Desirable experience

The following would be advantageous but are not essential:

  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience with other 3D design and modelling software packages
  • Experience within power generation, energy, process plant or related industrial sectors

Why join Clarke Energy?

We believe great engineering starts with well-supported people. In return for your expertise, we offer:

  • A very competitive salary, based on experience
  • 25 days' holiday plus bank holidays
  • 7% company pension contribution
  • Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
  • Westfield Health cash plan
  • Life assurance and employee assistance programme
  • Investment in your professional development and career progression
  • A collaborative culture where your ideas and input are genuinely valued
