100% Remote - Revenue Cycle Management Specialist / Medical Biller Job Description The Revenue Cycle Management Specialist will play a key role in supporting a rapidly growing healthcare organization that partners with independent primary care practices across the United States. As an early member of the internal revenue cycle management team, you will primarily work with practices utilizing Athenahealth and help build scalable billing operations from the ground up in a fully remote environment. Responsibilities Manage the full revenue cycle process for assigned medical practices, ensuring accurate and timely billing and collections. Submit, track, and monitor insurance claims through Athenahealth, resolving issues that impact reimbursement. Perform accounts receivable follow-up and collections activities to reduce aging balances and improve cash flow. Investigate claim denials, research root causes, submit appeals, and resolve reimbursement discrepancies. Review aging reports regularly and prioritize outstanding receivables based on risk and impact. Communicate with insurance carriers to verify claim status, clarify payment discrepancies, and secure timely resolutions. Document all billing activities thoroughly and maintain accurate, up-to-date billing records and reports. Coordinate with leadership to share insights on billing performance, operational issues, and process improvement opportunities. Support workflow distribution and collaborate with offshore billing resources as needed to ensure efficient task completion. Provide responsive customer service support to physicians and practice stakeholders regarding billing inquiries and concerns. Support multiple physician practices simultaneously, managing priorities across multiple client accounts. Contribute to building and refining internal RCM processes, tools, and workflows as the department scales. Essential Skills 3–5 years of experience in medical billing and revenue cycle management in a healthcare setting. Hands-on experience using Athenahealth for medical billing and claims management. Experience working with primary care practices and understanding of primary care billing workflows. Demonstrated experience performing accounts receivable follow-up, collections, payment posting, and insurance verification. Experience investigating claim denials, submitting appeals, and resolving insurance reimbursement issues. Background supporting offshore billing teams or coordinating work with offshore resources. Proficiency with medical claims, invoicing, insurance processes, and data entry related to healthcare billing. Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with physicians, practice staff, and insurance carriers. Proven ability to work independently and productively in a remote environment. Experience supporting multiple physician practices and managing priorities across multiple client accounts. Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to documentation and record-keeping. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a growing, high-growth healthcare organization and adapting to evolving processes. Familiarity with additional healthcare practice management platforms such as Tebra, Charm Health, and AdvancedMD. Experience using CRM and ticketing tools such as HubSpot and Zendesk to manage inquiries and workflows. Ability to contribute to operational strategy and scalability within an internal RCM department. Comfort collaborating with both onshore and offshore team members in a distributed environment. Work Environment This role operates in a 100% remote work environment, with standard hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST. You will join a high-growth healthcare organization that is expanding nationally and building an internal revenue cycle management department from the ground up. The team is exploring both onshore and offshore staffing models, offering exposure to diverse colleagues and workflows. You will primarily work within Athenahealth and may gain experience with additional platforms such as Tebra, Charm Health, and AdvancedMD, as well as tools like HubSpot and Zendesk. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New York, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
