The Department of Surgery has an outstanding opportunity for a Part-Time Mental Health Practitioner Clinical Specialist to join their team.
About this Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Research Operations, the Mental Health Clinical Care Specialist – Transgender Health is responsible for supporting care for patients through the Transgender & Gender Non-Binary (TGNB) Health Program. This position facilitates care coordination, education and health care system navigation for patients and families through Peer Support Groups and Peer to Peer training. Primarily, this role will develop and deliver training and peer support programs to specified groups, participate in community education, develop tools and resources for patient education and research, and participate in research activities for research projects associated with the TGNB Health Program.
This position is an hourly, 20 hours per week position and is non-permanent with an end date of 6/30/2027, though it may be extended depending upon development and funding of the program. This role is a remote role with occasional in-person meetings in Seattle, Washington.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver training and peer support programs for pre-surgical gender affirming care patients and families and community-based peer navigators = 60%
- Assist in development and delivery of training programs on issues affecting the LGBTQ + community including:
- Peer navigator support groups for pre-surgical gender affirming care patients and families
- TGNB staff faculty and leaders within the LGBTQ+ community
- Participate in the community forums and professional committee work
- Provide direction, mentorship, training, coordination, and consultation to Mental Health Practitioners, Peer Navigators, students, and other staff within the TGNB Health program and LGBTQ+ community
- Assist in development and delivery of training programs on issues affecting the LGBTQ + community including:
- Develop tools and resources for patient education and research = 20%
- Assist in development of tools and resources related to research, patient education and services
- Assist with other duties related to patient and caregiver resource access, education, and access to care
- Participate in research activities for research projects associated with the TGNB Health Program = 20%
- Collect patient responses to questionnaires before and after peer support groups
- Audit patient data for completion and complete follow-ups, as needed
- Participate in research presentations and meetings, as required
Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
- MA in behavioral sciences such as psychology, psychiatric nursing, occupational therapy, vocation or educational counseling or social work
Types and Years of Experience:
- Two (2) years of Mental Health Practitioner or equivalent, one year must be in a clinical specialty area.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed by the State of Washington as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Counselor, or Mental Health Counselor
- Eligibility for recognition by the State of Washington as a clinical specialist, under the community mental health regulations may be required. May be required to be eligible for a clinical faculty appointment and/or allied health credentialing.
- Must be able to gain and maintain confidence and credibility with the LGBTQ + community as well as faculty, staff and families with whom the individual works.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with adults identifying as LGBTQ+
- Experience providing comprehensive gender assessments and questionnaires
- Experience facilitating, moderating and/or hosting support or focus groups
Working Conditions
- Must be regularly available between 4 – 7PM Monday – Thursday.
- Remote work possible, with occasional in-person meetings
