DESCRIPTION
Sinch is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our core API Connectivity team in Malmö, Sweden.
Our Core Platform leadership is currently distributed across multiple broad strategic areas. To ensure the API Connectivity team receives the focused guidance needed to scale, we are introducing this dedicated leadership role. The current team consists of four software engineers and does not include senior individual contributors such as Staff or Principal Engineers. As a result, we are looking for a leader with strong technical and architectural expertise who can provide both people leadership and technical direction.
In this role, you will guide the team as a people manager while serving as the primary source of technical mentorship for engineering standards, architecture decisions, and system design.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide dedicated people leadership, coaching, and mentorship to a co-located team of four software engineers, fostering career growth and technical development.
- Define and guide the technical strategy and roadmap for the API Gateway that powers Sinch products, ensuring high standards of performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Lead the design, development, and company-wide rollout of a new centralized Event Delivery Platform over the next 6 to 12 months.
- Drive measurable outcomes through team health and performance, successful platform adoption across major product lines including SMS, Voice, Conversation API, and Numbers, and the decommissioning of legacy systems within the first year.
- Act as the primary technical advocate for the team, building strong partnerships with product managers, designers, and engineering teams to drive alignment and best practices across Sinch.
REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated technical leadership experience, typically gained in roles such as Tech Lead, Software Architect, Staff Engineer, or Principal Engineer, with a proven track record designing and operating highly available backend platform services. Previous engineering management experience is beneficial but not required.
- Strong expertise in the Java and Kotlin ecosystem, particularly Spring, as well as modern cloud-native technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, and microservices architectures.
- Deep understanding of software architecture, API gateways, and event-driven distributed systems.
- Experience building and operating critical infrastructure platforms at scale with a strong focus on quality, reliability, and operational excellence.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive adoption of shared services across multiple engineering teams.
- A genuine passion for people management, coaching, and team development. We welcome both experienced Engineering Managers and senior technical leaders seeking to transition into engineering management.
- This role is based in our Malmö office and follows a hybrid working model with 2 to 3 days per week in the office. Candidates must be based locally or willing to commute.
- As English is our corporate language, please submit your application in English.
