About the Role
Join a litigation team as a mid-level tax controversy associate, working with experienced attorneys on civil and criminal tax matters. This growth role offers the opportunity to help develop the tax controversy practice while collaborating on matters across a broad litigation practice.
What You'll Do
Support a senior attorney on civil and criminal tax litigation, white-collar defense, and complex commercial disputes.
Handle IRS administrative proceedings, including audits, appeals, and summons enforcement matters.
Litigate tax controversy cases in Tax Court, federal district court, and the Court of Federal Claims.
Research legal issues and draft briefs, memoranda, and other written work product.
Advise clients on tax procedures, reporting and disclosure requirements, and penalty avoidance or abatement strategies.
Collaborate with attorneys across the litigation practice on matters involving tax issues, including white-collar defense and accounting or legal malpractice cases.
What We're Looking For
Three to five years of tax controversy experience as a law firm associate, court clerk, or attorney in a government tax practice.
A JD and an LLM in Taxation, or current enrollment in an LLM program with completion by Fall 2028.
Active bar admission in the state where you will work, or completion of the admission process before starting. Eligible locations are New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC.
Experience with civil or criminal tax litigation is valuable. Purely transactional tax experience without controversy or litigation work is not a fit.
Strong legal research and writing skills, with familiarity using Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, and Microsoft Office.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary is $230,000 to $250,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Location
Hybrid, with at least three days per week in the office. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is the primary location and preferred office. New York, New York and Washington, DC are also available.
