Mini-Grids Engineer/Consultant

Role Description

The Mini-Grids Engineer/Consultant will support the design, analysis, and optimization of mini-grid systems for diverse client projects, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting technical feasibility studies, performing load assessments, selecting and sizing system components, and developing integration plans for renewable energy and storage solutions. The role will involve preparing technical documentation, contributing to proposals, providing consulting input on regulatory and environmental aspects, and supporting project management activities to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery. The Mini-Grids Engineer/Consultant will also collaborate on software-based modeling, data analysis, and performance evaluation of existing and planned mini-grids. This is a temporary, remote role that requires effective collaboration across time zones and clear, professional communication.

Qualifications

• Strong Analytical Skills for system modeling, data interpretation, performance evaluation, and decision-making.
• Consulting experience, including client interaction, problem definition, solution development, and clear presentation of technical findings.
• Project Management skills to plan tasks, coordinate stakeholders, manage timelines, and support delivery of mini-grid projects.
• Software Development and Integration skills to use or adapt tools for system design, simulation, and interoperability of mini-grid components.
• MSc or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Power Systems, or a related field;
• Experience with mini-grid or distributed energy systems design, including solar PV, battery storage, and control systems.
• Familiarity with industry standards, grid codes, and regulatory frameworks for off-grid and grid-connected systems.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages are an advantage.
