MLRO (Riga) Lead AML/CTF compliance across Canadian payment operations, shape the control framework, and advise key decision-makers. We usually respond within two weeks 🌍 About the Company The client is an established FinTech business providing payment infrastructure and merchant solutions to companies operating in the high-risk client segment. Its services include online payment processing, e-wallets, card payments, alternative payment methods, open banking solutions, and white-label payment technology. The business supports international operations through teams and partners across Riga, Canada, and Asia. Its combination of proprietary technology, regulatory expertise, and complex merchant portfolios makes this a strong environment for an experienced compliance professional seeking meaningful ownership. 💼 About the Role The MLRO will take ownership of the company’s AML/CTF framework across Canadian regulated operations . You will act as a senior compliance contact for regulators, advise management on financial crime risk , and ensure that policies, monitoring systems, investigations, and regulatory reporting remain effective as the business develops. This role requires practical experience working with FINTRAC , Canadian AML legislation, and regulated payment or electronic money businesses. 🔍 Responsibilities Own and continuously improve the company’s AML/CTF compliance programme across relevant jurisdictions; Ensure compliance with the Canadian PCMLTFA , FINTRAC guidance, sanctions requirements, and applicable Curaçao regulations; Act as the designated MLRO and primary contact for regulators, auditors , banking partners, and other relevant authorities; Oversee accurate and timely regulatory reporting , including suspicious transaction and electronic funds transfer reports where applicable; Maintain risk-based customer due diligence, enhanced due diligence, transaction monitoring, and sanctions-screening frameworks; Review complex or high-risk cases and make documented decisions on escalation, reporting, restrictions, or termination; Lead preparations for regulatory examinations, independent reviews, audits, and licence-related submissions; Assess new products, markets, partners, and client segments from an AML, sanctions, and financial crime perspective; Deliver practical AML/CTF guidance and training to compliance, operations, sales, product, and senior management teams; Provide regular reporting to senior management and the Board on material risks, control effectiveness, incidents, and remediation progress. 🎓 Requirements At least 2–3 years of experience as an MLRO or in a comparable senior AML/CTF compliance position; Previous experience within a Canadian-regulated MSB, PSP, electronic money institution, FinTech, or financial institution ; Strong working knowledge of FINTRAC , the PCMLTFA, regulatory reporting, and Canadian AML/CTF requirements; Practical knowledge of Curaçao AML/CTF, and regulatory compliance requirements; Demonstrated experience managing risk-based AML frameworks, CDD, EDD, transaction monitoring, and suspicious activity investigations; Experience communicating with regulators, auditors, banking partners , and senior decision-makers; Strong written and spoken English, with the ability to prepare clear policies, reports, and regulatory responses; Ability to work from Riga office under a hybrid working model . Nice to Have A bachelor’s degree in law, finance, business, risk management, or a related discipline; CAMS , ICA, or another recognised AML or compliance qualification; Knowledge of card payments, e-wallets, payment gateways, sanctions screening, and cross-border transaction risks; Experience managing compliance within complex or higher-risk merchant portfolios. 🤝 Key Competencies Sound judgement when handling sensitive, high-risk, or time-critical cases; Confidence challenging decisions and explaining regulatory requirements to commercial stakeholders; Strong ownership, attention to detail , and disciplined record-keeping; Ability to turn regulatory obligations into proportionate and workable business controls. ✨ The Employer Offers A gross monthly salary of €5,000–€8,800 , depending on experience and regulatory expertise; A hybrid working model ; Company-sponsored professional development and upskilling courses after the probation period; Health insurance after the applicable eligibility period; Company-paid parking near the office; Company-paid lunch during office days; Direct involvement in international payment operations and complex regulatory projects.
