This role will involve delivery of multiple initiatives in the integration space for Mortgages supporting strategic roadmap, reliability, best practice adoption and resilience. This role is within Mortgages CIO function under CT(Customer Technology), part of the wider COO organisation, which is responsible for delivering IT solutions which have our customers and colleagues at heart. Mortgages are primarily provided via brokers, through our online and API channel. We are actively expanding our propositions in both Home and Landlord space as part of integration.

A great opportunity to work in end-to-end delivery of agreed roadmaps that supports our Virgin Money Integration and Migration Strategy. You will work closely with Lead engineer and architecture team to provide thought leadership to our Engineering teams.

You will lead the end-to-end engineering delivery of the ALIAS Migration Programme, ensuring the successful integration of Virgin Money mortgage servicing capabilities into Nationwide's target architecture. Operating across multiple strategic initiatives, you will own engineering planning and execution for the Mortgage Servicing Web and API estate, aligning delivery activities with programme milestones, release commitments, customer journey objectives, and business priorities. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining integrated delivery plans, driving Stage 1 and Stage 2 estimation activities, and managing delivery against agreed commitments.

Working across a complex technology landscape, you will coordinate engineering delivery spanning mortgage servicing journeys, APIs, web applications, integrations, data migration activities, and supporting platform capabilities. You will facilitate estimation workshops with engineers, testers, architects, and SMEs, developing robust delivery plans, resource forecasts, and critical path schedules. You will also lead release planning and execution across the ALIAS platform, ensuring changes are integrated seamlessly into the wider Mortgage Servicing ecosystem while proactively managing dependencies, risks, and blockers across Nationwide, Virgin Money, suppliers, and partner organisations.

As a senior delivery leader, you will work closely with Customer Journey Managers, Engineering Leads, Solution Architects, Product Owners, and Programme Managers to ensure technology delivery remains aligned with business outcomes and migration objectives. You will provide leadership to a distributed engineering organisation of 50+ engineers, testers, analysts, and partner resources, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and delivery excellence. In addition, you will drive engineering governance, RAID management, milestone tracking, Agile delivery maturity, and executive reporting, providing clear delivery insights, recommendations, and decision support to programme leadership, architecture forums, and CIO-level stakeholders.

About you

As a minimum requirement, you’ll have:

  • Proven experience leading engineering delivery within large-scale transformation, migration, merger, or acquisition programmes, ideally within Banking or Financial Services
  • Extensive experience delivering complex mortgage servicing technology solutions (e.g., ALIAS, SUMMIT, ILP) with knowledge of Mortgage Servicing Operations, customer journeys, and servicing platforms
  • Experience delivering large-scale platform migration and integration programmes, including the integration of acquired business capabilities, applications, operational processes, and customer journeys
  • Understanding of Mortgage Servicing Web and API architectures, enterprise integration patterns, customer-facing servicing platforms, and API-led delivery models
  • Experience working across legacy and modern technology estates, including IBM Mainframe, Micro Focus COBOL, IMS, IDMS, high-volume batch processing, APIs, microservices, event-driven integrations, and cloud technologies
  • Demonstrable experience developing engineering delivery plans, facilitating estimation workshops, managing critical paths, tracking milestones, and reporting progress to senior stakeholders and governance forums
  • Proven ability to lead delivery across multiple engineering teams and workstreams, effectively managing dependencies, priorities, risks, release planning, and competing business demands
  • Understanding of software engineering practices, solution delivery lifecycles, production readiness, release management, and operational resilience within regulated environments
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence engineering leaders, architects, programme directors, and CIO-level stakeholders while presenting technical options, risks, and delivery trade-offs
  • A collaborative, delivery-focused leader who leads by example, builds high-performing teams, drives continuous improvement, and balances strategic objectives with hands-on execution to deliver business outcomes
