Multi-Specialty Medical Coder | Permanent WFH

We are seeking an experienced Multi-Specialty Medical Coder to join our team and support accurate, compliant, and timely coding across a diverse range of medical specialties. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding and is comfortable reviewing complex medical records in a high-volume environment.

Candidates with experience across multiple high-priority specialties—including Emergency Department, Inpatient/ICU, Hospital Outpatient, General Surgery, Orthopedics, OB/GYN, Maternity/Labor & Delivery, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Oncology, and Spine/Pain Management—will be strongly considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately code medical records across multiple specialties and care settings.
• Review physician documentation, medical records, diagnostic reports, and clinical information to determine appropriate codes.
• Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes in accordance with current coding guidelines.
• Apply appropriate modifiers, sequencing, bundling, and billing rules.
• Perform coding for professional and/or facility services, including inpatient, outpatient, surgical, procedural, diagnostic, and E/M encounters.
• Review complex cases and identify incomplete, unclear, or conflicting documentation.
• Initiate or escalate physician queries when additional documentation or clarification is required.
• Apply CMS, AMA, NCCI, payer, and official coding guidelines appropriately.
• Navigate Meditech EMR efficiently to locate and interpret relevant patient documentation.
• Maintain productivity, accuracy, and turnaround-time standards in a high-volume environment.
• Identify potential coding, documentation, or compliance issues and escalate them appropriately.
• Maintain strict HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards.
• Stay current with annual coding updates, regulatory changes, reimbursement requirements, and industry best practices.
  
  

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional medical coding experience.
• Demonstrated experience coding across multiple medical specialties.
• Meditech EMR experience is required.
• Strong working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.
• Experience working in a high-volume coding environment.
• Ability to accurately code complex diagnoses, procedures, and E/M services.
• Strong understanding of coding compliance, modifiers, NCCI edits, sequencing, and payer requirements.
• Excellent medical documentation interpretation and attention to detail.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently while consistently meeting productivity and quality expectations.
