Multimedia Journalist, Campaign Indonesia

Is this job info correct?

About the role

An exciting opportunity awaits for a bilingual Multimedia Journalist in Jakarta to help strengthen our advertising, marketing and media coverage in Indonesia. This is a full-time, one-year contract position.

Reporting into Campaign's Jakarta-based editor, the role involves producing editorial coverage of advertising, marketing, and media trends in Indonesia across Campaign's media platforms (website, video, social) and supporting live events. Assigned coverage will be primarily in Indonesian with English as possibility.

The primary focus is creating video and written reports, both independently and with editorial colleagues, to better visualise industry insights and analysis through video and text for Campaign's owned platforms. Channel management, scheduling and community are handled by a dedicated social media manager. This role feeds that function rather than running it.

Alongside this, the role carries a secondary written brief: turning interview recordings and transcripts into publishable articles, producing straight Q&A formats, and writing Ad Nut, Campaign's irreverent ad review column. This is not a peripheral duty. Written output sits directly behind multimedia in the weekly workload and the successful candidate will be assessed on both.

The role requires journalistic rigour and commitment to high quality content standards as both a content producer of original work and an editor of others. We would like the multimedia journalist to be a charismatic team member who will support and improve team content internally as well as serve as passionate brand ambassador for Campaign externally.

Location: Jakarta — fully remote. There is no office, but the role is Jakarta-based: you will need to be in the city for interviews, shoots and industry events.

Key responsibilities

Multimedia (primary)

  • Creating original insightful videos exploring industry themes
  • Filming and editing interviews with industry figures for Campaign's owned platforms
  • Cutting short-form clips from interview footage, selecting the sharpest talking points and building them into standalone pieces that work without the full interview around them. This is the extent of the social remit: the clips are handed to Campaign's social media manager, who owns scheduling, distribution and channel strategy

Written editorial (secondary)

  • Turning interview recordings and transcripts, your own and colleagues’, into structured, publishable articles
  • Producing straight Q&A pieces with minimal-intervention editing that still reads cleanly
  • Writing Ad Nut, Campaign's irreverent ad review column, in a voice that is funny, opinionated and defensible. This is a recurring weekly fixture, not an occasional one
  • Filing clean copy in Indonesian to deadline, with light-touch subbing needed rather than a rewrite

Across both

  • Publish multiple pieces of content each day, or five in total through the week. This might involve one or more edited interview one day, an Ad Nut review another day, and one or more original in-depth video piece on another
  • Contribute ideas and actively participate in story planning meetings
  • Network and build industry contacts to develop stories and content ideas
  • Attend and report on Campaign's own events and other industry events as required

Potential future scope

  • Podcast production and editing. There is no active podcast in the current plan, but the format remains under consideration and we would welcome candidates who could take it on if and when it launches. Podcast experience is a bonus, not a requirement

Language requirements

  • Indonesian — essential. You write publication-standard Indonesian. This is the language the majority of assigned coverage is filed in and there is no route into this role without it
  • English — high priority. You are comfortable conducting interviews, joining regional editorial calls and handling day-to-day correspondence in conversational English. Native-level written English is not required

We are interested in what you can produce rather than what you own. Include links to recent work so we can judge the output.

This role is for you if:

  • You have excelled working for a news media or content publisher
  • You can write, clearly and fast, in Indonesian, and can hold a conversation and an interview in English
  • You have proven video and audio editing skills and a flair for using effective graphics and animations
  • You can shape a raw interview into something a reader will finish and spot, in the same recording, the 40 seconds worth cutting for social
  • You have a sense of humour that survives contact with an edit, and the confidence to have a view on someone else's advertising
  • You can multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • You have great organisational and project management skills to publish content on a daily basis to deadline
  • You have a hunger for storytelling and a knack for visualisation
  • You enjoy networking, live events and maintaining professional relationships in a professional and creative industry
  • You work well with teammates and other departments in the business

How to apply

Alongside your CV, please send:

  • A list of the kit you own — laptop, camera, audio. Model names are enough; there is no need to justify your choices.
  • A video you shot and edited yourself. An interview or an interview clip is ideal. It does not need broadcast polish, but it should be your own work end to end — we are assessing what you can produce alone, not what a crew produced around you.
  • Two published writing samples in Indonesian. Any subject. If one of them carries a point of view rather than only reporting what happened, better.

We do not ask candidates to produce unpaid test pieces. Published or self-initiated work you already have is exactly what we want to see.
