POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Manager, Media and Creative Services, the Multimedia Specialist is responsible for developing and executing CHEO’s visual storytelling using latest techniques to create awareness, educate and communicate effectively to CHEO’s audiences.

The Multimedia Specialist works collaboratively with Team CHEO to produce compelling and highly visual stories from videos to graphic design, ensuring that every output meets the highest standards and contributes to CHEO’s brand. A passionate storyteller at heart, this individual also brings strong coordination, customer relations and time management skills to the position.

The Multimedia Specialist creates stories for all of CHEO so that audiences understand and relate to the work of CHEO. It does so by approaching complex issues and concepts and bringing creative visuals to support the work that CHEO does.

The successful candidate will be someone whose leading strength is in video production, including motion graphics.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create and maintain a CHEO-branded multimedia approach to storytelling. This look and feel in multimedia storytelling will be applied to CHEO, CHEO Research Institute, and CHEO Foundation.
• Works with CHEO, CHEO Research Institute, and CHEO Foundation to prioritize work and ensure a strategic and creative approach to visual storytelling that resonates with all of CHEO’s audiences.
• Liaise with staff/medical staff to understand their requirements. Work with staff/medical staff, briefing and advising them about video production capabilities, process, opportunities and timelines.
• Determine best visual treatment for a project or story (video, motion graphics, graphic design, photography) according to creative briefs developed with the internal requestor, to ensure the outcome will meet the desired goals for the identified audiences.
• Create, edit, and assist with coordinating approvals of final products.
• Promote and carry out design best practices, including accessibility (AODA).
• Review final products for quality and brand compliance.
• Work with Adobe's Creative Cloud Suite—including Premiere Pro, After Effects, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Lightroom—and other software, such as Resolve.
• Effectively source, license and create supporting music and/or graphics, special effects and motion graphics (3D and 2D).
• Maintain and manage an effective content management system.
• Help manage projects using the team’s project management system, from concept through to design, production and implementation.
• The Multimedia Specialist role will have a focus on video and photography production, but knowledge of graphic and multimedia design, motion graphic design, illustration and animation are an asset:
• Video and photography production:
  • Based on creative briefs, write and/or assist in scripting, storyboarding, researching and conducting interviews.
  • Operate camera(s) and audio equipment, design and set up lighting
  • Edit and mix videos, including colour correction, brand compliance, graphics, captioning, motion graphics, exports in required codecs/formats.
  • Maintain video/photography equipment, including software and firmware updates.
• Graphic and multimedia design
  • Based on creative briefs, develop creative concepts for graphic design and multimedia design jobs and campaigns, including motion graphics.
  • Create dynamic, on-brand graphic designs and motion graphics for a wide variety of printed and digital products.
  • Motion graphic design and animation
• Based on creative briefs, develop creative concepts for jobs and campaigns for a wide variety of printed and digital products, including motion graphics, animation and illustration.
• Create dynamic motion graphics and animations for a wide variety of digital products.
• Perform other related duties as required.
  

QUALIFICATIONS

• College or university diploma in multimedia design, graphic design, visual journalism, videography and/or film (Essential)
• Minimum five (5) years of experience as a multimedia professional (Essential)
• Proven experience in translating complex ideas into simple, effective stories (Essential)
• Proficiency with DSLR and HD video cameras, digital still cameras, relevant audio equipment and lighting techniques (Essential)
• Fluent in Adobe Creative Cloud (After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, InDesign), and Davinci Resolve (Essential)
• Fluent on both MAC and PC operating systems, as well as Office 365 (Essential)
• Bilingual (English/ French) (Preferred)
• Criminal Record Check (Level 1) (Essential) 

Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre-screening and evaluation process.  This process may include more varied and multidimensional testing such as a written test, practical exam, or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested.

Bilingualism (French/English) will be validated by a language proficiency assessment conducted by a third party provider. Candidates will be required to meet the minimum linguistic profile prior to the date of hire.
