The National Director, Development Operations serves as a strategic and operational leader across One Development (Field Development, Major Gifts, Corporate Partnerships, Cause Marketing, Partner Relations) responsible for translating priorities into actionable plans, strengthening systems and processes, and ensuring teams have the tools, resources, and information needed to execute effectively. The role works closely with and in support of the Chief Development & Revenue Officer (CDRO), Development leadership, and partners across the organization to lead cross cutting initiatives, drive operational excellence, and strengthen coordination and accountability across Development. The National Director leads a team responsible for providing centralized resources and operational support across One Development and serves as a trusted strategic and operational partner to the CDRO.
Responsibilities
- Manages key cross cutting projects and strategic initiatives in support of the CDRO and One Development, owning and overseeing elements as assigned and ensuring priorities move from strategy through execution.
- Partners with Development leadership and appropriate departments across the organization to develop, strengthen, and implement systems and processes that improve efficiency, consistency, accountability, and revenue generation.
- Leads and manages the Development Operations team, establishing priorities and ensuring effective delivery of centralized resources, tools, processes, and support across One Development.
- Provides leadership for Salesforce implementation and processes across Development, partnering with appropriate teams to strengthen adoption, data quality, business rules, reporting, and consistent use of the platform to support fundraising and revenue growth. Identifies opportunities to improve Development operations and proactively develops solutions, processes, tools, and resources that enable teams to work more effectively.
- Conceptualizes and develops polished and effective executive communications, including presentations, emails, scripts, talking points, reports, dashboards, tables, charts, and other materials that translate complex information into clear and actionable communications.
- Serves as a trusted strategic and operational partner to the CDRO, anticipating needs, identifying barriers to execution, and helping advance priorities across One Development.
- Builds, maintains, and leverages strong relationships with Development leadership, ADA executives, staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders to support the work of the ADA.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in leading Development operations, fundraising operations, business operations, project management, or a related function, preferably within a nonprofit or similarly complex organization.
- Hands on experience with Salesforce implementation, optimization, change management, user adoption, reporting, and data governance.
- Demonstrated Salesforce experience supporting fundraising, revenue operations, reporting, data management, business processes, and/or organizational workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex, cross functional projects and initiatives involving multiple stakeholders, competing priorities, and organizational dependencies.
- Experience developing and implementing systems, processes, business rules, and operational improvements, including successfully leading teams through process change and adoption.
- Demonstrated people leadership experience, including the ability to establish priorities, develop staff, manage performance, and lead a team responsible for supporting multiple stakeholders.
- Strong executive presence and demonstrated ability to build relationships, establish trust, influence others, and work effectively across all levels of an organization, including executives and senior volunteer leaders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated experience developing executive level communications for a range of audiences.
- Advanced PowerPoint skills and demonstrated ability to develop compelling executive presentations.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize data and complex information and translate it into clear narrative, visual, and actionable insights.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Teams, and the ability to quickly learn and leverage new technologies and tools.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with demonstrated success managing multiple priorities and delivering high quality work against deadlines in a fast paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Experience, Skills, and Training
- Experience supporting a large, geographically dispersed fundraising or revenue generating organization.
- Experience developing and managing organizational processes and leading process change.
- Experience developing fundraising dashboards, reports, performance tools, or other resources used to support revenue management and decision making.
- Experience working directly with executive leadership and translating organizational priorities into operational plans and deliverables.
