National Director, Information Technology

Breakthrough T1D is searching for an experienced leader in Information Technology for the role of National Director, Information Technology.

Here’s what your primary responsibilities would be:

• Works with the Senior Leadership Team to develop and execute a multi-year IT and digital strategy, roadmap and investment portfolio aligned with organizational priorities and supported by business cases, resource plans, budgets, performance measures and clear accountabilities.
• Leads Breakthrough T1D’s responsible AI strategy and portfolio, including governance, approved-use standards, privacy and security controls, vendor due diligence, human oversight, staff education, prioritized use cases and benefits measurement.
• Provides planning, resourcing, oversight and accountability for the IT portfolio, including enterprise applications, infrastructure, digital platforms, data and analytics, cybersecurity, service delivery and technology-enabled innovation.
• Partners with business leaders to assess needs, select solutions and oversee the design, implementation and integration of technologies that support mission delivery, research collaboration, fundraising, advocacy and organizational operations.
• Develops, implements and maintains Breakthrough T1D’s cybersecurity framework, policies and controls, aligned with organizational risk, privacy and data sovereignty requirements and applicable standards.
• Leads the enterprise data and analytics strategy, including data ownership, quality, classification, integration, retention, privacy, governance, reporting and the development of trusted organizational and constituent insights.
• Builds, motivates and retains a highly engaged, customer-centred information technology team aligned with Breakthrough T1D’s values, vision and strategic priorities.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

Knowledge/Skills/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, business technology or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive leadership experience across information technology, digital transformation, project and portfolio management, enterprise applications, infrastructure, cybersecurity, data and service delivery, including experience leading complex enterprise-wide initiatives and multidisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated experience managing IT environments with cybersecurity, privacy, and data sovereignty requirements comparable to those of federally Canadian organizations.
• Demonstrated experience leading enterprise digital transformation involving cloud platforms, enterprise architecture, systems integration, digital products, vendor ecosystems and organizational change.

Other position requirements to note:

• Demonstrated experience overseeing high-volume transactional websites, CRM platforms, digital fundraising or engagement solutions, and internal collaboration and information-sharing platforms; experience with not-for-profit enterprise systems is an asset.
• Strong knowledge of cybersecurity, privacy, data sovereignty, records and information management, accessibility, responsible AI, cyber resilience and third-party technology risk in a Canadian context.
• Project, program, technology governance, security or service management certification is an asset.
• Translates organizational strategy and stakeholder needs into practical technology priorities, investment decisions and outcomes.

The salary range for this role is anticipated to be $125,000 - $160,000, commensurate with skills and experience level of the selected candidate.
