Network Field Engineer

Location: South East / London (Field Based)


We are looking for a Network Field Engineer with Juniper networking experience to join a high-profile public sector programme delivering a large-scale network transformation across London and the South East.


Working as part of an on-site implementation team, you will play a key role in deploying and commissioning Local Area Network (LAN) infrastructure across 102 customer locations spanning over 67 miles. Reporting to the Senior Network Engineer, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, testing and troubleshooting network infrastructure to ensure successful delivery of a fully managed connectivity service.


This is a hands-on field-based position where you will represent the company on customer sites daily. Professionalism, technical expertise, and a customer-focused approach are essential.


Key Responsibilities

  • Install and commission LAN switches and network infrastructure across customer sites.
  • Configure Juniper and/or HPE switching technologies.
  • Configure and deploy Wireless Access Points (WAPs).
  • Perform copper and fibre patching activities.
  • Conduct network testing, commissioning, and fault resolution.
  • Troubleshoot wired networking issues, escalating where required.
  • Ensure network installations are delivered in line with design documentation and best practices.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, work notes, and implementation records.
  • Provide regular progress updates to project and service delivery teams.
  • Liaise with third-party vendors and suppliers to progress support cases and technical queries.
  • Identify installation risks, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support service handover activities to Managed Service teams.
  • Build positive working relationships with customer stakeholders, facilities teams, and local site contacts.
  • Maintain high levels of customer service and professionalism at all times.
  • Continuously develop technical skills and industry knowledge.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Experience installing and configuring enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Strong knowledge of LAN technologies, switching, and wireless networking.
  • Hands-on experience with Juniper networking technologies.
  • Understanding of network cabling standards and installation best practices.
  • Experience with copper and fibre cabling, patching, and structured cabling environments.
  • Network fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of network security principles.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple customer sites.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across London and the South East region.

Desirable

  • Experience with HPE/Aruba networking technologies.
  • Experience working within Public Sector or Local Government environments.
  • Wireless survey or deployment experience.
  • Previous involvement in large-scale network rollout programmes.
  • Knowledge of ITIL processes and ITSM systems.
  • Network-related certifications such as JNCIA, JNCIS, CCNA, Aruba or equivalent.

Security Clearance

Candidates must be eligible to obtain:

  • NPPV3 Clearance (desirable)
  • SC Clearance (desirable)
